  1. Hey there! I also applied last year to the 2nd entry program, but my grades were not high enough. I emailed the school when I was going through the application process and they told me that in order to cover all the material for anatomy and physiology, you would have to take ANP 1107 from OttawaU OR BIOL 235 AND BIOL 230, which is straight up Human Physiology. (I remember you from last year's thread, fingers_crossed! Hope you've been successful with your endeavours in the past year :) )
  2. Hello! I am currently applying to the RPN program at Algonquin college (January 2015 intake) and I'm wondering about pre-requisites. All of my high school courses were in the university stream (I went to high school in Ontario). I read somewhere that when looking at applications, if the applicant has university stream courses instead of college, they will add an extra 10% onto the final grade for consideration. For example, if I got a 75% in grade 12 university level math, they would look at it as an 85% college level math. Can anyone verify this? Thanks!

    Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

Yeah, it's frustrating because it was the only school I applied to. I don't have the prereq's for the other schools and I can't really afford to leave town. I actually finished ANP 1107 in the summer so that part wasn't an issue for me. I think I might actually just take a few courses in the summer to boost my average for next year, maybe even look at RPN programs too. *sigh* I just wanna be a nurse

Well, I just got rejected from UOttawa as my average was too low :/ guess it gives me more time to work on BIOL 235 and get an awesome grade for next year :) good luck to every one else though!

Wow you guys, I just had a mini heart attack about having to do BIOL 230 as well as BIOL 235! I looked at the Athabasca site and it says you can't do BIOL 230 if you already have BIOL 235 as a credit. What does 230 include that 235 does not?

@Isla88 I don't think it matters at all. I mean, you should be handing each quiz/assignment/exam in by their order (1, 2, 3), but I think that's all that matters. Perhaps do your assignment first so it helps prepare you for your quiz and exam, but I don't think it actually matters.

I've done really well in the first quiz and assignment, but not as well in the first midterm. I find that the first midterm focused a majority of questions on specific names and parts of bones. How I've been studying and working on each chapter is by looking at the study guide given to you on the course website, going through the textbook and filling out info on the topics given to you in that list. Also, do the quizzes at the end of each chapter because they really help prepare you for what questions may appear on the exams and quizzes. I hope this helps!
  9. Hello everyone! My name is Emma and I have applied for the 2nd Entry Nursing Program at the University of Ottawa. As of right now, I have a BA in Psychology (High Honours) with a minor in history as well as a Personal Support Worker certificate with honours. I'm currently taking my pre-requisite for anatomy and physiology at Athabasca U. I'm wondering, for any professors and anyone with experience out there, if having a PSW certificate will give me an edge on my BScN application. I know that none of the courses from the college program will fulfill the admission requirements, but those have all been covered with my degree and with the course I'm taking right now. I'm wondering if having that experience is a good supplement with regards to having clinical experience behind me. Thanks!

Hey everyone! I'm Emma and I'm applying for the 2nd Entry program at Ottawa U. I currently hold a BA from Carleton University in Psychology (High Honours), focusing on forensic and abnormal psychology, as well as a minor in history. I also have a Personal Support Worker certificate with honours from Algonquin College. As you can see, I'm an Ottawa girl! I'm also in the process of doing BIOL 235 at Athabasca to cover my anatomy and physiology pre-reqs. For those who are starting it soon, be cautious and diligent because it is a VERY content heavy course. I started in September and am just over half-way through the textbook. Make sure you go through the study guide they give you on the course website because they do ask you to skip sections in it, such as the fetal development and aging sections of each chapter. Good luck everyone and Happy New Year!
