Did you have a hard time getting another loan to finance your second degree? I'm concerned that when I'm ready to go for my Acc. Second Degree, I'm going to have a hard time getting loans. Has anyone had this problem, or is it easy to obtain more loan money for a second Bachelors Degree?
I finished up my 2nd up degree and i had to pay out of pocket, thank goodnes i had a decent paying job, i had to move back with my parents to do so though. i could not get any more loans until i paid down a significant amount which i didn't have so i did not qualify. it worked out though as that's 10,000 + money that i do not have to pay back.
Ok let me ask you what you would do. I'm working on my first degree, thought it would be better to have a degree already (BA in Management) then get a second degree in nursing, thought it would be easier and faster to get into a 2nd program. Not knowing that you only qualified for so much money in loans for a Bachelors. I have an associates already, and will be done with my BA in May of 08, but I want a degree or certificate in nursing. My loans are already $17,000, should I just not finish my BA and go for my Nursing Degree? I'm between a rock and a hard place not knowing what to do. I can't get alternative loans because of credit issues, so I don't know what to do at this point, and my job doesn't pay all that much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I owed much more than $17,000 when I went for my BSN and I had a BS in Anthropology and a BS in Social Work. You need to talk to someone in financial aid to find out how much you can take out.

There is a lot more money available for grants, etc. if you qualify and if you haven't graduated already. You might want to work on both degrees at the same time. Just don't graduate - leave one class for your first degree undone until you're done with everything you want to do. That's what I wish I had done. When I graduated the first time, though, I had no idea I'd want to go back for another degree.
I graduated in '05 with a BA with subsidized Stafford Loans. I begin an Entry-Level Masters program in 2 weeks. I applied for the graduate Stafford loan and got a bunch of aid - both subsidized and unsubsized. It's more than I need so I'm only taking the subsidized loans as I don't want to pay interest through school.
There are other nursing scholarships out there to help too, but you have to be willing to hunt them down and write the essays for them.
Good luck!
From my perspective I can tell you this, I was qualified was Fafsa, but my school is giving me problems regarding financial aid, for the reason of me having a associate in liberal arts degree. They told me i have to many credits at my school, well i will get my final answer about their financial help august 16 i believe, then i'm pursuing private loans with a co-singner, good luck to you, i hope you find a way.
Thanks guys for all your responses. Next year May 08 I'll have my BA degree owing about $32,000 when I'm done. I'm only completing this degree because I've started already and I like to finish what I start. I'm going to look into other options right away because nursing is what I really want to do and I feel this BA degree is useless here in Michigan.

If I quit a good-paying job to go to school for a second degree, how does that affect applying for federal student loans?
