Seattle University DNP 2020 Cohort (RN or APNI)

Updated:   Published

I didn't see any content here on Allnurses regarding the 2020 cohort for Seattle University's APNI-DNP program so I will start one here. Anyone else applying?

I have not gotten an official response but I never got invited to interview. I think that says it all. ? I applied for the nurse midwife program as well. Overall I would say my grades were pretty good, only one C in physiology. The rest As with a B or two. I am lacking in traditional medical field experience. I’m trying to get certified as a phlebotomist in the upcoming month. Anyone wanna share their stats with me or share ideas of what they did to be more competitive? Getting experience is so hard for me because it takes money I truly don’t have. I already work three jobs just to try to support myself. Anything will be so helpful to me. I really want this to happen for me some day. And honestly congrats to those who are and will be accepted

I completely understand where your coming from and your message here resonates with me tremendously. As a black first generation college student from a lower socioeconomic status I too struggled with access to programs and opportunities that would deem me competitive. So I totally get it. I also applied for the nurse midwifery program, I haven’t heard back if I have gotten accepted but I did interview. I think what I presented in my application and in my interview was how my experiences and life’s mission align with the values of Seattle University. I don’t think a technical or clinical experience (that can be expensive) is the only way to stick out. Personally, I am a certified doula and have been a leader in numerous community initiatives. I think you working three jobs conveys that your a hard worker, if your able I would do some soul searching on what issues matter to you and become that agent of change. Also, I believe they do send out a second round of interviews? and some folks don’t even interview and have gotten in- so it’s not over. Don’t get discouraged. If you don’t get the response you want, I would definitely ask for feedback and how you can strengthen your application. I’m sure you’d be a great fit and are completely capable of succeeding in the field, so keep at it and remain hopeful. Hopefully we hear back good news!

@SSNP congrats to you! I'm sure that's an amazing feeling.

I interviewed Feb 7 for PMHNP.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I'm pretty sure the people who interviewed for psych track decided to go elsewhere?

Fingers crossed everyone! ☺️

Has anyone heard back? I got a phone call today being offered admission for the DNP-Midwifery program

I received a phone call on 2/27 as well for acceptance into the Midwifery track! This was my 3rd time applying and second time interviewing.

Congratulations! Thant's amazing. Super happy for you. How did you improve your application over the years and when did you interview?

I interviewed on 2/1. To improve my application, I started volunteering with a women's advocacy group and have been working full time as a medical scribe at an obgyn office. I've been lucky enough to see a handful of births (lady partsl and cesarean). I also feel that my reasons for wanting a career in women's health has definitely become more focused so I was able to articulate that well in my interview this time around. My GPA was adequate, but was not a 4.0.

Any APNI-FNP heard anything yet?

Does anyone know if we need to get our CPR certification prior to starting the program?

Hello everyone! Another long time follower who finally decided to make an account!

I received an e-mail with acceptance to the psych/mental health DNP program this past Friday. I would love to connect with anyone else who is going to choose to attend SU or is still debating about it (as I am in debate myself). I am also happy to share information for those who will be making the move to Seattle. I have been living here for the past few years and know how terrifying it can be to think about establishing yourself in a new area.

For those still awaiting a response or interview, please don’t give up hope!! I got rejections from several schools and know how agonizing it is to wait for a yes to come in. Don’t ever count yourself out and keep pushing forward regardless of the outcome!

@SSNP I do believe we need CPR cert before starting, I found the info on SU’s webpage (https://www.seattleu.edu/nursing/DNP/apni/what-is-the-apni-program/)

I received an email this morning that my application status has changed and I’m happy to share that I just got accepted to the APNI program for Adult Gero! My heart is racing!

I got my acceptance email (that my application status had changed) on Friday morning 2/28!! I am so excited! I am in the AG-Acute Care track. Anyone else in this one?

@SSNP Yes, not sure if you got the welcome email from Oz yet but in the attachment it says that we need to get the CPR cert. They recommend to get it June of the year you start so it lasts for longer in the program. Congratulations on your acceptance!

Congrats @kmd1005!! I also was accepted into the APNI Adult Gero program this morning ? So excited to start!
