I thought I would start a thread for applicants to the 2016 MSN for Non-Nurses: Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion at Seattle University. I am applying for the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty. Any other applicants for this cycle? Questions and comments regarding the program and admissions process are welcome!
Hanging in there, but it's definitely been tough not really knowing what's going on with the whole interview process (besides the fact that interviews started on the 30th... And that another round of emails just went out today). I've been taking A&P, which has kept me busy. Haha. I guess it helps take some of the pressure off of thinking about grad school.
Congratulations Rose29! I saw two other people on the facebook page got interviews as well and they were for FNP. I was reading through these and FNP seems to be agreed upon as the most competitive, have any of you heard applicants being accepted with lower undergrad GPAs? I feel good about my application except for my undergrad GPA, it was around 3.4
Congratulations to everyone who received interview invites today! And good luck to each of you!
Still no invite for me, which bums out a bit. Has anyone heard whether any psych interview invitations for this upcoming weekend have been sent out yet?
Congrats again, everyone! Thinking good thoughts for all of you, and happy interview invitation thoughts for the rest of us still waiting. :)
I know of at least one psych applicant that got an interview on the 30th, but have seen mostly FNP and CNM interviews for this coming weekend (as well as some for the other dates in February). I also applied to psych and haven't received any invites or seen any changes on my application status. :-/ Talk about anxiety...
Yes!! Congrats to everyone and good luck on your interviews.

DenaliFox - Congratulations on your interview!
That's awesome! Good luck! As for your questions, I've read in previous years threads that the interviews are reasonably informal, so a shirt and tie should be fine. Definitely review your application and make sure you know it inside and out, especially your essay, as your interviewers might not be familiar with everything in your application, so you need to be prepared to recap it. Know your strengths and weaknesses, how you'd be a good fit for the program (paying particular attention to the social justice aspect of the program). And most importantly, just breathe and be yourself! Take your time with your responses, no need to rush. They clearly already see something good in you and your application to invite you for an interview, you just need to reaffirm those beliefs. :) Congrats and good luck, again!
Lnelson16 - It seems like a lot of applicants are hoping it's the last 90 credits, regardless of whether they were the last 90 that went into your bachelor's or coursework you took after. It would make more sense to me to look at the last 90 period, since it's most recent and probably a better indication of the sort of student you are now, but as I mentioned before, I'm not completely sure how they assess it. I didn't do poorly in my undergrad, but my graduate coursework and all of the pre-req's I've taken since are a 4.0, so clearly I'd prefer that to be what they consider most heavily, as far as GPA is concerned.
woodlee9 - I agree that the environment and the makeup of the other people in the cohort is important. Speaking from a psychological perspective, such factors have been shown to potentially have a pretty dramatic effect on how people respond and perform. Of course, my perspective is somewhat biased, given that I'm a huge fan of the bioecological model of human development, but I do think it's an important consideration that more programs should take into account.
