Hi All,
I remember when I was applying to Seattle U's APNI (Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion) program a couple of years ago there was no information for me out there! So I wanted to circle back and answer any questions applicants or potential applicants might have. I finished the APNI portion last spring and now am in the first year of the primary care FNP/AGNP track.
Good luck to all.
@3catsinSF There are research opportunities for both APNI (1st year) and DNP (last 3 years) students. That being said, most people doing research during our first year did most of it outside of school. They might have an SU faculty advisor though. Most students are not doing research their first year because you are pretty darn busy with school and clinical. You have to be a self starter to be involved in research during your first year for sure.
During the next three years, there should be a lot of opportunity for research. You have to complete a DNP project, so you will be doing your own research with an advisor to get your degree. You can jump onto a professor's project or do your thing with oversight from an SU faculty member. I went to an event to listen to current senior DNP students presenting their research projects, and they were super interesting.
The faculty members are researching and publishing on a wide variety of topics. You can go look at the list of faculty for the nursing school and look up the faculty online to see what type of research they have published. For example, some faculty members are working on maternity public health issues, some on cardiovascular health, and some epigenetic changes as a result of trauma. I have a background in research, so I was happily surprised to see the breadth of research being done at SU.

@JTravelsTheWorldThanks so much for answering this! So great to hear--opportunities for research are important to me. Will also look into the current research faculty is conducting.

Has anyone who applied to the FNP track heard back?
