Seattle University APNI 2019 Applicant Questions?

Published

Hi All,

I remember when I was applying to Seattle U's APNI (Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion) program a couple of years ago there was no information for me out there! So I wanted to circle back and answer any questions applicants or potential applicants might have. I finished the APNI portion last spring and now am in the first year of the primary care FNP/AGNP track.

Good luck to all.

Hello fellow applicants! I am glad to see some of you getting interview invites. I'm sure that the wait is excrutiating for all of you, as it is for me!

I applied for the PMHNP track but haven't heard much yet. I did shoot out a quick email to make sure my application was confirmed. Grad admissions said that their new system has some kinks and doesn't send out confirmation emails. So rest assured to anyone that was worried about not getting confirmation. If you got it in by the deadline then it's all good!

Looking forward to having the opportunity to meet many of you and (fingers crossed!) hopefully walk the APNI path together!

Ethan, I applied for the FNP and I still haven't heard back. It looks like they have only reached out to those who applied for midwifery so far. I am hoping that I hear back this week!

Has anyone noticed that their application status has changed? Mine still just shows that all my transcripts and letters of rec have been received. Is the status supposed to change at some point?

Hi all! I've been reading this thread for a while, and figured I'd chime in. I'm an applicant to the PMHNP program, and I just got an invitation to interview last week. I'll be interviewing on the 7th. Best of luck to everyone! ?

I live in CA and I know that phone interview is an option, but I’m wondering if it would be a better option to fly up for the weekend? Any idea if it matters?

Same boat here! I decided to fly in for the day, as I've never seen the school. It was pretty affordable ($130 I think). I debated going or not quite a bit because I have a baby, but in the end decided that it would likely be beneficial, given the option, and a good chance to do a campus tour so if I do get in I can make a more informed decision.

Congrats and good luck! Glad to see that someone heard back. Although it has me rather worried about my chances ?

Is anyone an RN applying to DNP program? I am and would love to connect with you. I have heard back re: interview, but again, I am RN so I believe the time line is a bit different. Good luck to us all, application process is rough!

Has anyone else heard back? I'm losing hope for my chances...

I haven't heard back, but I called last week and they said that they will be sending out emails in the first two weeks of February. It seems like people from midwifery are hearing back though. I am getting so anxious, though! I just really want to know either way.

Hi everyone! I am a current APNI student in the PMHNP track. I wanted to offer encouragement about interviews and final decisions: 1- depending on your track, you may not hear about interviews until late, even if after a date they may have said they will send all interview offers out by... 2- I'm fairly confident that statistically this is the hardest program in the nation to get into for the APNI type bridge program (hundreds of applicants for 72 spots for our cohort- I think around 15-20% acceptance rate but I don't know for sure). Several of my friends including myself got into Ivy League schools for their NP programs but didn't get into Seattle U. So, if you get waitlisted or denied, try not to lose hope and don't take it personally or discourage you from reapplying or applying elsewhere. I was waitlisted and denied first time around, then waitlisted again but accepted second time around. So- waitlists and denials are super common. Tons of people in my cohort were accepted on round 2 as well. So, don't give up!! Lastly, I am the track rep for PMHNP's for our cohort, so I believe I will be at orientation for Q+A etc. so I look forward to meeting you all! Best of luck!

Hello! I am also a current student, and I just wanted to chime in since I remember this time being incredibly stressful. If you haven't heard back by now, don't give up hope please. I remember getting pretty down last year because a bunch of people had been invited for interviews, and I hadn't heard anything. It turned out that they just hadn't sent out the invites for my track, so you never really know what is going on behind the scenes.

Here's my two cents about interview prep if you are feeling lost because I know I did. Really take time to get to know yourself and identify important stories from your life that highlight your values/strengths/areas of growth. You have to be able to convey who you are to the interviewers. If you don't know yourself well, it will be hard for the interviewers to get to know you. Also, know SU's values and how your values match up with them. I spent a lot of time preparing and practicing for my interview. I literally searched these forums and other sites for common questions asked in this type of interview. I then had stories from my life that could answer these questions. I think this prep had a lot to do with me getting in on my first try.

I did a ton of soul searching, and I was very open and honest about my life and background and emphasized what I had learned and how I had grown. Remember that everyone applying is smart, has good grades, and most have healthcare experience. How are you unique? Emphasize what sets you apart. Don't forget to look at your personal statement too.

I am linking part 1 of a 2 part video that really helped me get in the right mind set for my interview. It is for medical school, but that is only because I couldn't find one for direct entry NP programs. :) They are long videos, but I think they are totally worth it. I hope this helps someone out there. I believe in all of you.

@JTravelsTheWorld Thank you so much for sharing that link! I have another question for you, if you don't mind--

Does Seattle U have research opportunities for APNI students? What kind of research are the faculty involved in? Is this an emphasis of the program?

Thank you!
