SDSU Fall 2012 admission hopefuls

Published

Good luck everybody! I really hope that you all get in. This is a really stressful time in our academic careers, so let's use this thread to comfort each other and to answer each others questions about the admissions process. And at one point or another, celebrate our admission in the SON. Thank you very much!

Hey guys, I just wanted to send out some encouragement. I know that waiting is incredibly stressful, but hang in there!

I'll be keeping an eye on these thread - if there are any questions I can (try to) answer for you, please let me know. I'm graduating this May, so I've been through the wringer much like you have. :)

@Coriander! I do have a few questions ..

1) Does the SDSU BSN program run through the summers or is it 5 semesters without summers (equaling to 2.5 years)?

2) How has your experience been, especially the transition from a pre-nursing student to a nursing student? And was the program what you expected?

3) I read on another thread you only have 48 hours to decide whether to attend or not after admitted. Is it possible to accept a seat then withdraw later on based on admission to another school that I want to attend? Is there a deposit that you have to pay when you accept the admission to the nursing program? SDSU is my second/third choice upon CSULB and CSUS and I want to know students' opinions on the program itself.

Thanks so much! :)

hi there! i can answer the first two, but the third question is news to me. they have changed a few things, though, so that may be why i don't know. i can try to find out.

1) does the sdsu bsn program run through the summers or is it 5 semesters without summers (equaling to 2.5 years)?

it is 5 semesters without summers. you are able to take the generic classes over summer, and sometimes a nursing course or two, but plan on being in the program for 5 semesters.

2) how has your experience been, especially the transition from a pre-nursing student to a nursing student? and was the program what you expected?

i have very much enjoyed my time at sdsu, and am sad that it is almost over (although i do plan on returning for my dnp). i changed my major from kinesiology to nursing, so many of the pre-reqs were the same. i did need to retake a class which held me back a semester... although now i am so grateful for that. :)

the clinicals are amazing, the professors are incredible. it's very hard compared to pre-nursing and "generic" (i hate that term lol) courses, but if you really put your head down and do your best, i know you will be great! i honestly had no clue what to expect.

i have to toot our own horn here... if you can, get involved with cnsa (you can even as a pre-nursing student!) the california nursing students' association really attends to students, both mentoring and just having someone to talk with. it's a great group to be involved with because they know how you're feeling! (plus you get good hints from advanced semesters.)

3) i read on another thread you only have 48 hours to decide whether to attend or not after admitted. is it possible to accept a seat then withdraw later on based on admission to another school that i want to attend? is there a deposit that you have to pay when you accept the admission to the nursing program? sdsu is my second/third choice upon csulb and csus and i want to know students' opinions on the program itself.

this is always a tough question, whether or not to accept. i would totally accept and then withdraw if you find out about the other school - that way someone else might be able to step into your place. but you are still covered. i don't remember about a deposit, but it seems like forever ago. that information should be contained in the acceptance email, and if not, you can contact the advisor.

i wish you all the best!!! please let me know if i can help in any way.

thank you for all your input ! i am really excited to hear back from sdsu. i think i have competitive scores, but i'm not exactly sure how they choose their applicants. :)

Hey everyone! I'm Still waiting to hear from SDSU college admissions and the nursing program admissions. I'm a transfer student hoping to get into this college as it's my first choice.Anyone in the same boat? I'm so nervous. The college said i would hear from them early march but we're now into the latter part of March and still no word. I'm getting worried. Does anyone have any input? I hope we all get in!!! Good Luck...I'm assuming we will have answers soon. I would love to go to SDSU!!

I am in the exact same boat as you are, icecrmlovr. All I know is that Nursing is one of the last, if not the last, majors to hear back from the school. But according the thread for last year's admissions, they heard back around the second week of April. But I heard that all students should know by the end of March. I hope that we all get in too! Good luck to you and everybody else out there!

Thanks for the info twobucktin!! Is SDSU your first choice too? I'm dying to know if we got in! This is dragging out too long!! If i added up my points right i have a 76, hopefully thats good enough! I wish we could have an idea of what is a good number. Do you live in or near San Diego?

Yes, SDSU is my first choice too! I think that you will be fine with 76 points. Wow, I only have 72 points haha. I'm hoping that barely good enought to make it. haha. I am dying to know our status too! I live in San Diego, so going to SDSU would be very convenient to me. How about yourself?

Where did you hear that we would find out by the end of March? I guess checking with the school of nursing is the only way to know 100% :(

Their admissions office said that every student should know by the end of March. But you are right, checking with the School of Nursing would be the only 100% way to know when they will let us know their decision.

@twobucktin- I live in the ventura county area. I've been down to SD plenty of times though. I love it there. According to the past threads it looks like between 65-70 is the cut-off but i don't know how true that is. That would be awesome if we find out at the end of March from both the college and nursing department. All this waiting better not be for nothing! lol

@icecrmlovr That would be amazing if we get in! Haha... The waiting part of this whole process has to be the most nerve-wrecking thing ever.
