Scripps Healthcare New Grad Residency Program 2011, has anyone received a interview invitation?
Does Maxim hire new grads?
Apparently! My Duke classmate is working for them in Denver, CO. She graduated in Dec 2010 with me and has exactly as much paid RN experience as me: none.
Most of their positions say "1 year exp preferred" - which is not usually worth a try, but my classmate got hired very quickly. She makes a lot (per diem/ contract)!

but, one caveat: I have not figured out how to get their app to remember all my employment, education and cert history! It is *incredibly* annoying. Can you imagine? Entering your entire ******* resume including dates of work, contact numbers, etc etc etc.... for every single app?
I'm hoping that there's some way to remedy this, but haven't figured it out yet. It's ridiculous for the system to work like that.
Thanks SarahLT! I might have to give that a try too. Since you went to Duke, do you have any experience applying for their SNIP or GEMS program? I'm curious as I'm in that process.
I stupidly did not apply to SNIP when I was close to graduating because I thought "oh, I want to go back home to CA so bad; who needs Duke and their nice loan repayment program and very good chance of hiring me! I'm sure I'll get a job in CA". .... and now it's 100+ apps and 4 months later. hmph.
Anyway, I did apply for the next available round of SNIP positions (closed sometime in Feb). I just don't know if I can handle another 2 years in NC when every single family member is on the West Coast.
Haven't heard anything back yet. All I know about the interview process from my classmates is: it's 1-2 managers, and you will probably interview in scrubs and then tour the unit - which I think is a great practice.
Funny - I thought "hmm, BigMan314.... could that be the Big Man Who Likes Tiny Babies (NICU) who sat to my left at that Scripps table?" haha.I can say for sure that you -and most other people I communicated with- would make excellent, caring, competent coworkers and nurses. Maybe we, in particular, were screwed by our preceptorships that didn't relate to the interviewing units (NICU and postpartum, respectively). Too bad. I know I'm a quick learner, and you probably are too, but I guess they just want to go with the "safe" applicants who had perfectly-related preceptorships and/or already have a Scripps 'in'.
I assume you (and others on here) are applying for CHOC and UCLA. If, Lord willin', I get interviews there.... well, we'll have this adventure all over again :)
For now, I'm taking my friend's advice to apply for any and all Maxim Staffing positions in my area (or areas I'd want to work like So Cal). At least you get some experience and make GOOD money. I just need to stay afloat at this point.
Thanks for all this support, comrades.
that be me. my friend courtney got your phone number. did you get hers? we should def keep in touch. we've applied to ucla, choc, sjch bakersfield, and so many more that i've lost track
are you going to the career fair thing in LA on monday?
Congrats Sooperdooper!!!
I'm a nursing student right now and I work at Scripps as a PCA. We are having mock interviews for my leadership class and I was wondering if you could tell me what your interview process was like for the new grad program at Scripps. Was is it a panel? Was it group? And what kind of questions did they ask you? Any information would help!
Thanks and Congrats again!!!
Hi guys, I thought I would share this with you. I also received my rejection letter last night, but prior to that I had an interview at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in the morning. The interview went really well. This afternoon I got a job offer for the cardiac tele unit on day shifts. They hire when there are positions available and have orientations once a month, so you have to constantly be check their job boards. I talked with HR and they said they are going through a period of tremdous growth and are expecting to hire a bunch of people. I thought I would share this with you since you guys were there for me as I awaited on pins and needles my rejection letter from scrippts.
HI KrisGrande
Congratulations for escaping the unemployment world and your position at PIH!
Thanks for sharing that information for us, would you be able to help me out a bit
more with what position you applied for at PIH? I'm on their employment website but
do I search "New Grad" specifically or any RN I positions that I see? What did you do?
If you wouldn't mind private messaging me I'd be really grateful, I'm a new allnurses user and am not allowed to PM people until I've made 15posts.
Thanks in advance!!
hey springbaybee and SarahLT, i just pieced together that i met both of you at different times during the day. i was the big guy in the dark suit at the table with you guys sitting with my friends from school in the bay areasucks that none of us got positions. look forward to possibly seeing you guys at other events
Ya it does suck. Good luck to your job search!
You can click on "nursing" and search for "RN, New Grad" positions. I applied recently but never got a call back. Does anyone know how to reach them? They seem to never/rarely pick up the phone or reply to voice messages. Also, do you know how long it takes to get a call back for an interview?
Thank you!! :)
For those of you who got hired, did you make a portfolio? If so, what were the contents?
If not, what documents did you submit during the interview?
I handed them a packet with my cover letter, resume, and letters of rec. There is no need to use a fancy binder to hold them together. Just staple it and save the planet.
