Scott & White Internship -- June 2011

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi!

Just wanted to start a thread for the S&W applicants for June 2011. Let's all keep each other posted and encouraged as we go through this nervewracking process!

If you could state where you are from and what your 3 choices were, that would be great. I'll go first!:lol2:

I'm from NJ and my top 3 choices (in order of preference) are: ICU, STC-2 (Adult Observation) and ER.

Good luck to all of us!:yeah:

Wasnt trying to hide anything. I was requested to private. Interview went awesome. It was me, the OR Director, OR education coordinator and a current intern. Got along great with them. Toured the OR area. Asked me why i chose the OR, just about me and stuff like that. Very casual.45 applied for 8-10 spots. I like my odds, they will make decisions on the 25th.

I like your odds too. Right off the bat you have a 1 in 5 chance and then you get to impress them during the interview. Best of luck, let us know how it turns out! :)

Again, so many secrets around here. I can't begin to understand why people wouldn't want to share their interview experiences with others in the profession. Your experiences may cause others to apply, those others have the potential to be strong teammates at your facility. Don't you want to be on the best team?

How is quoting me saying "let us know how it goes" being secretive. Some people don't care but some people don't want to share their experiences, and I can't knock them for that. These internships are majorly competitive so some people don't want to share anything because it's put your "competition" at an advantage - knowing what to expect. Different strokes for different folks. Those "others" could also knock you out of the running for the job. There are people on here who won't even tell you where they applied for a job or got an interview. I may not condone it but I do understand where they are coming from. No one HAS to tell us anything.

You asked somebody to give you a private note, so that "lurkers" can't see. People shouldn't be afraid of competetion, it should make you better. I would want to use anything around me to be better, including my own success drive, not be fearful of my mediocre status.

My point is, that's the problem with the industry. Very few want to be better or continue to get better. That's why there's so much beating each other down and being catty. Its the lazy person's way to job security, even though its easier to prove your worth by... wait for it, wait for it... actually being better!!

Let's all keep each other posted
That's some funny stuff

First off, if you're going to quote me, make sure you quote the correct quote. THIS is what I said:

Feel free to send me a pm if you don't want lurkers reading all about it ;-)

The key word is IF. If HE didn't want lurkers reading all about it. There are lurkers reading -- not only members. If you look at the bottom of any page, it will tell you how many members are reading and how many lurkers are reading.

I stand by my point -- we are not all holding hands, singing songs together. With applications being in the hundreds for so little jobs, job interviewing and hunting IS a competition. Some people do not want others to know certain things, especially strangers. Because that WOULD give them an advantage. Same as taking a test. If passing a test determine whether I would get a prize -- a prize that is only offered to the highest scores -- why would I come back and tell you what's on the test? Now, I can tell you that the test is hard...or easy..but I'm not going to come back and give you details like what's on there. And some internships tell you to not talk about the interviewing process -- for exactly this reason..it gives an advantage to those that come along later.

I'm going to do my best -- regardless of if someone wants to share their experience or not. But, again, I'm not going to knock anyone for not wanting to and thinking they OWE me their take. If he wanted to tell me, fine. If he said, naw..I'd rather not share (which I have seen time and time again on this forum), again, that's fine. I wanted to make sure he was comfortable in telling me whatever. That's the purpose of having the private message..wait for it..wait for it...so others cannot see what you're writing!

My question to you is -- unless you're applying and interviewing (which I take it you're not because you've called them cheapskates for making us pay for our own expenses there)...why is this forum any concern for you? This forum is for us that are interviewing and applying for this internship to come together and show support -- however each of us choose to and however much we want to share!

Hi! I'm really intrested in applying at Scott and White because I've heard so many good things about this program. Do you know if they conduct in person interview only? Thanks:)

Hi! I don't think they only conduct in person interviews only. A friend of mine is interviewing for a position from NJ and they asked if she wanted to have the interview in person or over the phone. So, I'm guessing you can do either.

There are lurkers reading
Ok, got you down as fearful of those around you. I, on the other hand, will choose to do my best and keep improving every day. If that's enough to accomplish my goals then we can call that a success, if somebody else beats me out then I will congratulate them and send myself back to get better. At my job, I want the best teammates around me always and they want me to be the best. They don't want me there because I was able to sneak through or gossiped my way to the top.

Sneaking? Gossiping? Fearful? Your posts make me laugh. I'm fearful of no one but God. If you're as successful as you say you are, someone not sharing information with you should not bother you as much as it obviously does. Especially for a position you havn't even applied for. ePlease find another thread to comment on because your posts are irrelevant to the topic here.

Well the problem with this is that we ARE a bit fearful, or atleast I can say this for myself. We are all new graduates here, and from what I can see in these topics, there is a bunch of support and friendliness going around for everyone. But in this economy it is hard to find a job, and these graduate programs barely take 10 people out of hundreds of applications. And this is from my understanding, but if you just got done with an interview, and you tell another person who is interviewing for the same place later all the questions they were asked, isn't that a bit like cheating? Sure you can share your experiences, which I know almost everyone who had an interview has done so far, but there is only so much you can share you know? And I've seen many posts of people who have successfully passed the interview process and obtained a job who shared tips on the interview process, and how to better improve yourself to get a job. If you want an accurate answer or want to know their experience I suggest you take a look there. There's some great helpful stuff out there. For us, we are just starting this interview process, and we don't even KNOW if we'll get the job, so yeah. And also, competition doesn't always make you better. What makes you better as a person and as a nurse is continuing education, experience, being a critical thinker, collaboration, cooperation, camaraderie between colleagues, and so much more! Atleast that's what I think. :)

Hi all--- first let me just say boo to all of the negativity from a certain poster. secondly, I just interviewed for the critical care internship, and it was AMAZING--- the staff and facility alike. I spent hours preparing for the interview, and while I am sure that helped, i was asked a bunch of nontraditional interview questions. While, I will not share all of the details (sorry guys, but y'all are my comp :p) I will say that I was true to myself and answered my questions based on my own personal nursing philosophy, and I do think that the interviewers appreciated that... good luck to everyone. :D

And I appreciate that! Yes, you and I are competiting for the same position :p, I'm not mad at all for you not sharing all the details (and you would be silly to share them!), the purpose of this forum is to share experiences. And you did that! Even just telling us that you were asked a bunch of nontraditional interview questions is more than enough!

I still have 2 weeks go to before my interview...and I'm nervous and excited! I'll let you know how my interview goes! Good luck to you too! Hope to see you in June!! :yeah:
