Really? That's weird, I've received a lot of help from members of this community over the past year or so while I was working to get accepted to nursing school - either in the form of helpful responses to my threads or private messages. I think that your experience on this forum is what you make of it. I'm pretty sure that going around questioning whether or not people care for their patients isn't the best way of eliciting positive, uplifting responses to your posts.

What I have noticed is that many of the individuals who have become nurses are not helpful hey talk down on everyone else but you are not a doctor. And I highly doubt any of you will become a medical doctor some day you lack the mental fortitude. When someone ask a question answer their question dont give them your opinion of what you think about them because they are asking the question. Their are many private schools that dont ask for the TEAS v exam . if becoming a nurse means I will loose my compassion for helping people then I dont want to be a nurse I have yet to meet one nurse who will actively help someone else become a nurse almost as if you dont want others to succeed in becoming something that will ultimately make your their equal. Sometimes the truth hurts, just because you dont agree with the advice doesnt mean it is wrong. All the posters said was if you cant achieve a successful grade is a BASIC knowledge test then maybe nursing isnt for you. Sometimes hearing the truth is better than being coddled and told you are perfect and nothing you do can be wrong. And whats up with the attacks of they will never become doctors? I'm pretty sure this is a nursing forum and everyone went to nursing school and not medical school so I imagine that isnt their goal. Maybe you should "grow up" if you cant handle a little criticism and think giving truthful advice on a forum equates to patient care.

I agree 1000% I'm sorry but I have met and worked with my nurses who have passed all these tests but isn't very bright. Taking a the TEAS exam doesn't prove how good of a nurse you will be! EMPATHY, and genuine care for another individual is what defines an amazing nurse. So do not discourage others to boost your ego!

Nobody posted discouraging remarks, and if only empathy and blind kindness makes a nurse great then why do they bother making us go to school? Forget medications, saving a coding patient and recognizing potentially deadly symptoms right? I would rather have a nurse who knew their stuff then one who holds my hand and tells me everything is going to be okay.

This discussion makes me sad! It's a legit question and I see all the cyber trolls attacking. In my opinion the TEAS is pointless and before all you "nurses" go off ranting many of you never taken it. Much of the TEAS has nothing to do with nursing and much of it is logic and strange questions from courses that weren't on my degree plan. Here in Texas the Teas is only 5 years old and yes we understand that the NCLEX is way harder. Hence that's why you do your nursing courses to prepare you for the NCLEX. There are no such classes for TEAS just a book that hardly has what the true test has. Just my opinion FYI people are entitled to it!

I have heard that The University of Memphis is said to discontinue the Teas test. I'm not fully certain. I will find out soon, because I plan to enroll in their nursing program when I'm done with all prerequisites. Good luck!

I agree!

That is correct. The TEAS has nothing to do with nursing. It is just a tool to weed prospective nursing students out. It's a shame really.

Just a thought...I thought nurses were supposed to be compassionate and supportive?...Just an idea!

"well then, maybe Nursing School isn't for you," is a discouraging remark.

The truth is not necessarily encouraging.

I scored a low, but passing test rate of 69.3 on the TEAS , before taking ANY science classes, and only finished 2 of the 3 remedial math classes I needed to take and didn't study AT ALL. I took it just to see where I stood on in, and by how everyone else spoke of the test was pretty nervous about it. It is VERY basic. I now finished my math, and have some science under my belt, and will study this time around so I know I'll do much better come Sept when I retake it. My point I am trying to make I guess is that If someone like me can pass that thing with no prep then anyone who puts a little bit of effort into studying the teas manual and relearning the very basics of the subjects can pass it. I do agree with the majority of others...if someone can't study to pass such a basic entrance exam, I feel it may be a struggle to pass NS.

I find it appalling when others call nurses uncaring and unhelpful when they don't agree with someone who wants to become a nurse, yet wants to bypass a test required to show competency of very basic subjects. It certainly doesn't prove that someone can tackle something they're struggling with , learn what they need to know, and put the time and energy into making what they want happen. I feel like that would be a nurse that is okay with cutting corners - it takes more than empathy to make a good nurse.

Agreed with AppleJack. I think people get themselves so worked up over the fact that they have to take a test that they try to justify why it's wrong to make people take the test to show you have the knowledge to do WELL in nursing school. Schools have a very good reason for not wanting students who have low reading comprehension and math scores, and seriously if you don't think that schools want you to know a significant amount of anatomy and physiology before you start your core courses you're going to be in for a rough ride. It's a harsh reality. Some people do not put as much effort in to study during pre-reqs, just doing what they need to to get a grade, and that will be a big issue when you're in NS and beyond. That typically shows in the test scores. Also, there are so many people on this site (and elsewhere) who can't form proper sentences, don't use proper grammar, don't understand how to use punctuation, etc. If you can't write succinct notes that are legible, you're going to have a hard time. Hopefully the TEAS weeds out some of those people until they've learned these skills. We need nurses who are skilled and know what they're doing, not people who just happened to be able to get into nursing school by having pre-req grades that met the requirements. It's a waste of money and time for everyone involved if someone clearly just isn't ready to go through that.

Does anyone know of a university in southern CA that has a night RN program?
