  1. "well then, maybe Nursing School isn't for you," is a discouraging remark.
  2. That is correct. The TEAS has nothing to do with nursing. It is just a tool to weed prospective nursing students out. It's a shame really. Just a thought...I thought nurses were supposed to be compassionate and supportive?...Just an idea!
  3. Hi Bronze, ..did I say I scored an A? Hmmmm...well, in the state that I live in now, the courses are separate. You take Anatomy, then you take Physiology. I did make an A in Physio, but a C in Anatomy - not because I wasn't interested in Anatomy. I find this subject very interesting. The issue is that there is SOOO MUUUCH TO MEMORIIIIIZE... And if you have a sucky professor...it makes it worse. So I hope you have a professor who will take the time to answer all of your questions, show you/go over all of the micro-parts of the body repetitively, and who will willingly be available to you so that you have a good/great idea of everything. Good luck!
  4. Actually, my cousin who works as a nurse, just stuck herself with a needle when doing a venipuncture on an HIV + patient. She dropped the needle after the venipuncture, and picked up the needle and poked herself in the finger. I don't know if she was using a safety needle - I guess she would have to be. But is there something else that she could have done to have prevented this? (Is there a pair of tongs around?....)
  5. Hello, I will be applying for the Nursing Program at my local college but I have a lot of questions and concerns about balancing my school, future nursing job schedule, childcare for my daughter, and my family life. I am married and we live out-of-state from our family. My daughter's school has before-school care and after-school care from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Besides this care, myself, and my spouse, we have no other child care. I am wondering if this is going to be enough? I am concerned that if I would be working three 12 hr. days a week (correct?) as an RN, will I have enough childcare support? Also, I feel a bit upset that I won't be around my daughter and spouse as much since I will be working long hours. I will miss maybe waking her up for school and getting her ready, or not being able to pick her up from school. It really brings tears to my eyes, but I'm sure that's how the rest of you feel, right? Will adjusting to this new school and work schedule be tough on me? Do you feel that the hospitals/clinics work with you on setting up your work schedule, or is it their way or no way? Please comment. Thank you,
  6. Yes, thank you to all who clarified what your title is. I thought, these have to be CNAs or very poorly paid LVNs.
  7. Boy, it would be nice if you were one of my instructors. Thanks for being so considerate!
  8. **************************************** No it wasn't difficult to dissect. But if you're a cat-lover, then you have to get over the fact that you are about to cut into "Fluffy."
  9. *************************** And which college do you attend, only if you don't mind sharing.
  10. ********************************************************** I agree about the community college. We only attended the Nursing Program Meeting and the director was using that same discouraging tone. It actually worked on some of the people in the meeting and they were then talking about other program options. I felt that was wrong for the director to talk to these people in such a discouraging manner.
  11. ********************************************* I am sorry to hear that you are having that problem. God! - can't people just behave in a sane manner?? I agree with your feelings about your instructor. I would feel the same way. I also would want to talk to the director of the Nursing Program, but it could be a good thing for you , or a bad thing for you. That's the unfortunate part.
  12. ************************************************ I'll have to check for the online class. I am just used to actually "going to school." I'm 35, so when I was in college, that was the only way to take a class. A&P definitely has a LOT of information to learn! Good luck! :)
  13. HA!HA! HA!...Oh my..well, that was an interesting insight from Tyler77. But I appreciate your insight as well. I've worked as a CNA and hoped that in Nursing I wouldn't do the cleaning up of the poop and so on. The nurses that I've worked with while I was a CNA refused to do that. There was only one LVN who would offer her help to us CNAs at that time.
  14. ********************************************************** I am trying to get into that English class. It's full at my college so I'm on the wait list for it. I hope I get into this class. It's the last pre-req that I need before I apply for the RN program.
  15. ******************************************************** Congratulations on getting into the program! I hope I do as well!
