Schools that you dont need a TEAS to get in

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

can people name some schools where you dont need to take the TEAS to get in? I am in Michigan it would be nice to find somewhere close but I may have to travel if I want to be an RN

In reply to the teas test. I am an A student and find this "basic knowledge" not so basic. The test is NOT basic life knowledge. Not all of it. I fail to see why I need to know the different types of clouds to determine if I will be a good nurse. I have been in the medical field for 25 years. This test needs to be reformatted.

I agree with an entrance exam but the TEAS are a scam. Why can't the entrance exam be basic? I'm a straight 'A' student and take school very seriously. But this test is a joke!

Thank you! A person might ask out of curiosity or inexperience. The questioner may end up finally taking the test and score better than all these people giving opinions that nursing is simply not for everyone etc.

I am in the process of getting into my community college's LPN program. I currently attend Illinois Central College & they do not require TEAS to be accepted into the program. However, they go by a point system, and my advisor there told me the minimum point to be accepted or considered for my school's LPN program is 40 points. I understand having a points system, but I have to question my advisor when I was told "it is competitive". I could be wrong, but I would think my school's RN program would be more competitive than LPN.

there is a school in north Carolina name is Gastonia college. a person with any bachelor degree can easily get in the LPN program with no teas test. Forsyth tech college LPN program have only a 42% teas test and the ADN is 60. hope that will help you

If you can't pass the TEAS, you will NEVER be able to pass the NCLEX.

Being a nurse isn't necessarily for everyone. Just saying.

That's not true.  ATI TEAS is fairly a new program.  It did not exist back in the day.  Are you saying that the nurses that graduated from nursing school prior to ATI TEAS existence didn't pass the NCLEX then?  MANY nurses that graduated from nursing school passed the NCLEX without any problems!

johns hopkins!

TEAS test is just what it is it is a test. It does not justify your skills in a nursing program, during the pandemic a lot of schools waive the TEAS testing because they were unable to use testing sites due to social distancing. Those students got in nursing programs with no problem and are probably successful in their program.

A majority of private schools does not require  the TEAS test. Technical schools and community colleges are a business and design to making money. Having you take these tests probably is a way to keep their accreditation within the school. I've taken a TEAS test and none of those questions will I see on the nursing NCLEX or doing my nursing studies. The questions on the TEAS are basic arithmetic, algebra and English questions.

Get rid of TEAS or allow students with college credit and degrees to waive taking the TEAS test.

Well said!! I have an AA and BA. I am also a LPN/LVN. The HESI and TEAS tests basically measures a student's readiness for college programs, that's it! I agree with Meya, they should get rid of those entrance exams or allow students with college credits and degrees to waive them.

Also, back in the day, there was no entrance exam. You just applied. They had a long wait list but that's it.
