How to Stop a Nose Bleed??

Interesting. Anybody tried keys, or another cold object, on the back/back of neck for a nosebleed?

I have also had them suck on a cube of ice or 2, and that has helped. A former EMT told me that trick.

I also find blowing out the clot works like a charm as well. I will use a ice pack to back of the neck if blowing does not work. Not sure where I picked up that trick (never heard of the keys trick). I always assumed that it had to do with circulation to nostrils and the cold helping to constrict vessels in the nostrils!

I use the old fashion way: Cotton roll, pinch nose with ice pack on top, blow nose every once in a while until clot comes out. Usually it takes 5 mins and they are done and out.

When I was a kid I was prone to nose bleeds. My first and second grade teacher would put a little wadded piece of brown paper under my top lip. Maybe it didn't do squat, but at the time it seemed like it did. No idea why though.

My OM showed me this and it did stop it but how does it do that?

This is the reccommended treatment...

Keep them upright and gently tilt their head forward slightly. Leaning their head back could cause blood to run down their throat. It will taste bad, and it can make your child cough, gag, or even vomit.

Pinch the soft part of the nose below the nasal bridge. Have your child breathe through their mouth while you (or your child, if they are old enough) do this.

Try to maintain pressure for about 10 minutes. Stopping too early may make your child's nose begin bleeding again.

You can also apply ice to the bridge of the nose, which may reduce blood flow.
