Head Lice - It's True

Tuesday morning I was brought a bug in a zip-lock bag. The bug had been just removed from a head. It was a, robust, adult head louse - judging by it's size. It appeared to be very agitated as it was quite active. OK, so I decided to perform a scientific experiment; school nurse myth buster if you will. After poking several pin-holes in the bag I push-pinned it to my bulletin board. Yesterday, when I left, the louse was alive and well and was still displaying agitation, flailing its louse arms wildy in the bag; I thought I noticed some obscene gestures. This morning I must report the louse has perished and, thus, my school nurse myth buster scientific experiment has proven a head louse will die within 48 hours if off of a human head. You have my express permission to share this scientific data with any hysterical parent or staff member.

:nono: No Shave November is a 2 way street. And it is promptly followed by "Forget it December" and "No Razor New Year"

Hmmm. I need to think about this.

Yeah and Farawyn just announced she let all the School Nurses out of the School Nurse Forum cage and people better watch out!

There goes the neighborhood. Has anyone ever been kicked out of the Blue Side?

This just keeps getting better....Hysterical! I so want to be able to share it with somebody. Unfortunately, I am the only nurse in the building...and lets face it. This is funny, but you kinda got to be a school nurse to GET it. My secretary here is the absolute best...it would be fun to have her read it, we would most likely laugh ourselves into oblivion and we would have some explaining to do to need-to-know teachers that would over hear us.

Hallelujah....only 1 hour and 5 minutes to go.

On a serious note. I need you (my) school nurse friends to think extra happy thoughts for me. My baby is a Senior, I went down to listen to them practice for the CHRISTMAS program...and..well...I cried. The teacher let me know that me and one other mom is who they have their money on to cry during the program. I guess I must have a reputation.

I feel like such a sappy wimp. I don't want to cry in front of our sweet little music teacher. She lost her husband very recently in a sky diving accident. Soooo...if you could really think extra happy thoughts for her ... SHE NEEDS IT WAAAAY WORSE than this seasoned mom who is watching her baby do a lot of "lasts" in his Senior year.

Thanks for all the fun today...I think we alllll needed it. :singing: :whistling: :sarcastic:

Awww, and to keep it OT, did your son learn about lice, both private and public, in school?

I've been a mess since my kid went to college. I'm a real mush when it comes to my boys.

They bust my chops all the time and Dawwww, I miss that!

Hang in there. It's all good. I promise.

I'm so sorry for your friend's loss. :(

Well huffmannurse, by now you know I have an opinion about everything and I must and want to disagree with you. First of all, YOU brought that bundle of joy into this world and have been there ever since to put your needs behind his/her needs, you've been there through "thick and thin," joy, anxiety, good times, bad times, cuddles, fights, fear, celebration, worry, worry, and more worry. You have come to that bittersweet time to let em go so Girl, you have earned those tears. This is a time to cry for joy and celebrate this wonderful child and wonderful accomplishment. Second, I promise, your compassion and love for the music teacher will be much more appreciated by you sharing your emotions with her versus your attempt at a stoic, stiff upper lip, performance.

Even being this burly, testosterone oozing, specimen of masculinity that I am - I cried as #1 graduated, #2 graduated, and all the end of year activities for them, and I'll cry at #3's graduation, and #4, and #5. I put in the time and I earned it; their mom, my sweet petunia, helped too of course but she cries about everything.

Yes, as a matter of fact he has learned about both types. Both at home and school. Kids who grow up with parent that is a school nurse... are soooooo lucky :0
