Hey everyone!,

The principal asked me to do epi-pen training for staff. I have no problem doing it but am I supposed to go through a special training to teach staff? I just want to cover my license and make sure I am not breaking rules

The pens I got came with a training dvd. I just showed staff that and then answered questions.

For the past few years I've been using this training video from allergyready.com. "Back to School." You'll have to create an account but it's free. It's a virtual instructor. You can show the entire video or just pick the topics that you wanna include; which is what I do.

I do a demo with a plastic box and a real expired Epi-pen (thanks OldDude for that suggestion, I believe, it really shows how an Epipen works and goes through layers of thick clothing). Then go over some talking points, including reviewing my school wide allergic reaction action plan, and pass out some trainers for folks to use on themselves/each other. Then I answer any questions.

I have a one page sheet I hand out with the need to know info. I delegate Epi on field trips, not on campus.

I use the videos from the websites for Epi-Pens, Auvi-Qs and Adrenaclick. I play the video, show the pen, put up a slide with the directions (straight from the website) and let them practice and then on to the next. I email the videos and instructions to teachers after the presentation in case they want to watch again (you know they do--best entertainment!).
