2018 Lice

  1. I have a girl with chronic lice. Non compliant with treatment, and mom "can't make her do it."

Other parents are worried because she is on a sports team that has lots of close contact.
Thoughts on how to handle this?

Maybe let mom know, if you already haven't, that combing through your own hair with that teeny tiny lice comb is near impossible and that she, the parent, will have to do it.

I'm not a fan for excluding for lice, but only if the parents have exhausted all options, which this mom has not. If necessary I would involve admin and tell them the situation. Maybe a firm "She won't be able to stay on the team if you don't treat her" will work? Of course, we can't make parents coat their kids in chemicals, but if your school excludes for lice, sports should be no different.

I already spoke to admin. I am waiting for a response. I am hoping to hold Cheer over her head for this. Thanks. I just didn't want to be barking up the wrong tree.

I know you are the best at communicating with teenagers...have you spoken to her about it? Something just suggests to me that this is about mother/daughter dynamics and not about the girl purposefully wanting to expose her team members to head lice and/or that she intentionally wants to have head lice.

She's avoiding me. I have called her down several times and even tried to pull her from a class by standing outside her door. (She was taking a test.)

Well, you're a stubborn one, and she can't hide forever. I still think something isn't adding up.

Agreed. I cannot imagine a girl in High School, on the Cheer team no less, would WANT to have lice.

    Now, that's just mean.
Girl has a beautiful thick head of hair. I can't imagine treating it. Painstaking.

Does she think the chemicals are going to ruin her pretty hair???
