I have been working at my current workplace, a hospital downtown, for a little over a year now as full-time. As of Monday I will transfer to part-time because I am starting a new job closer to home. Both managers are aware.
This afternoon I received a phone call from my current manager scheduling a meeting with her, human resources and a union representative on Monday. She would not give me any details except that it was SERIOUS, which is what worries me most, and she would pay me for my time (odd but nice). I asked if it was about a patient (which is my #1 concern) and she said no. But that's all she would tell me. I know this will be at the back of my mind all weekend long, stressing me out! This is the first time I've been asked to come in on my day off and meet with people other than her. Any ideas what it could be about?
Although I don't think this behind the reason and if it was I will tell her the truth. I called in sick yesterday. I don't call in often ... maybe a handful the entire year. This time it was legitimate, I had schedule conflicts at both workplaces and couldn't find anyone to pick-up my shift. It left me with no choice. I can't be at 2 places at once. I called in really early so they a good amount of time to call or a replacement.
jlsRN: I did tell my roommate about my dilemma, but she must have forgot. I don't know ... the damage is done. It was ultimately my mistake.
Grrrrr, I'd be mad at her.
Anyways, meadow, this will all be a distant memory before you know it. I doubt if they're going to go after your license for a stupid mistake. Be sure to emphasize that you weren't intentionally trying to get free sick money, but you had bit off more than you could chew by trying to juggle two jobs.
I agree with JLS I would be so ****** at my room mate. Course I would also be ****** at me for putting myself in the position.. So quit beating yourself up. beat up the room mate instead, lol ( kidding)
Makes a good case for having two phones in your place and your room mate does not get to answer your phone.
My employer has my cell phone number, they do not have my house phone number.
Meadow do not be so hard on yourself,,, lesson learned is all.
They will not take your license, I just don't believe they would.
I think it's petty to call and check on her. My guess is the manager is mad she got another job and she called with revenge on her mind. She didn't make an innocent call to go over a question she had with the patient. She wanted to find her doing wrong and got her wish. That doesn't mean Meadow was right because she wasn't. She made a mistake and handled this situation poorly. I'm sure she learned a good lesson but going after her license for this would be malicious and extreme.
No, I wouldn't say the manager was being petty. Meadow had asked around to switch that shift and that wouldn't exactly be a secret, and the manager knew she had another job. It doesn't take too much to figure things out, especially if the reason she had asked others to switch that shift was known. The manager followed a trail. That comes out of the unit's budget which the manager is accountable for.
Yes, I do think Meadow made a mistake, she may not have realized she could have taken an absent day instead without pay. Personally I think yes, she has learned something. I think they will either ask her to resign or terminate her. For them to report her to SBON would not serve any further purpose.
those HR people and your manager have wayyyy to much time on their hands.... my heavens.... that is the sillest thing i ever heard....they won't take your license for that.......
keep us posted ... my prayers are wih you....
That is my thought exactly! They need a hobby or something. A little too much time on their hands.

Unfortunately, whether the Manager is petty, the roommate has a big mouth or HR has to much free time there is only one lesson to be learned from this.
Honesty is key... Lying one time can ruin your credibility forever.
It's way easier to get them to believe you if they believe you. If there first interaction involves a lie getting them to believe you is either not going to happen or is going to cost a lot.

Right - it's not like she was calling to ask a question about a patient, or even to check on how she was. She was calling to find something to get on her about. If I were her I'd do what I had to, apologize or whatever, and pack up my toys and get out!
