Hello,
I'm from Texas. I will apply to San Jose State fall 2009 -BSN.
On the SJSU website, they mention about the minimum GPA 2.5 and "all repeated courses to improve the scored are excluded".
My GPA is 2.8 right now, and I now that it's hard to get in there. But my English was not really good back then when I took Sociology, History, Government.... that why i got all C's. Most of my Math and Biology are As.
Would anyone please give me some advise please?? I would appreciate very much.
I don't think that's true for the nursing major.. just for many other majors. The nursing major has its own qualifications. A girl I know lives in Dublin and was accepted last year with a 3.2 prerequisite GPA. I know they are saying no to 2nd bachelors, but I don't think they are rejecting anyone from nursing because of where they live.
I don't believe SJSU turns away people from other counties, but those in Santa Clara County are definitely the priority. The nursing program roughly accepts 70 students each semester.
Nissan350z, I believe you have a pretty good impaction score, but I think you should aim for a TEAS score of 90+. You can only repeat the TEAS test once so might as well try to get a higher score.
I did my first clinical at VMC last semester and we experienced a lot, thanks to my clinical instructor. It was tough and sometimes frustrating due to the whole computerizing-the-system thing, but I'm thankful I got through it.
If you read the following links about the current process, you will see what defines a local applicant and what doesn't. It is advised that both Local and Non-Local had other colleges as a back up option, as SJSU is in a critical state with admitting transfers. Hope this helps.

Just wanted to add that this is where I went to school a few yrs back and I felt well prepared for nursing. Definitely heavy on the theory vs clinical but I learned more clinical on the job anyway. I did try to do my clinicals at various places to see what/where I liked but that was right before this whole time of it being hard to find a job. I was even offered a bonus when I got my first job:) Good luck to all trying to get in.

Sorry for the bump guys but I am feeling really stressed out. As you know, admission has become highly competitive, so being stressed out makes complete sense. Anyway, I am currently at sjsu and I have completed all of the pre-reqs except for physiology, which I am currently taking. Assuming I have a 4.0 in all the coursework and a 81% on the TEAS (1 attempt), do you think I still have a chance of getting in? My impaction score is around 11.xx. Thanks for your help!
