San Jacinto ADN Spring 2012

Anyone applying for the spring semester!!

Hey BellaGirl!

It's good to hear that you are pursuing a new career. I think nursing is a great choice! Ive lived here in Houston all my life, and decided to change career paths as well and go into nursing. I have a BSB, and I'm currently in banking. I started researching nursing schools about two years ago, and after completed all pre-read and going through various application processes, I'm happy to say that I'll be starting at San Jac in January. My advice to you would be to take as many of the pre-read that you can. EVERY school is different so their requirements as far as the application processes are different as well. Stay on top of any deadlines that you may have. Testing is quite different as well. I took both TEAS and HESI, study for both! I don't think it matters where you take the HESI, however when you register for the TEAS, you may have to take it in Houston. I will say the HESI is far more easier than the TEAS. That test bites. And I say that because it is timed!!!! Not fun!!! There are a ton o programs here in Houston. Apply to all if you can. How about you instant message me and maybe you could call me so that I can explain more. I have a meeting to attend and it seems that this could go on forever. :)

Well apparently Im not very good with this site. I cant figure out how to instant message. How about I give you my email. [email protected]. My name is Stephanie by the way

Thanks Again

Does anyone know if San Jac requires health insurance for the program?

Hi CareAngel,

No we do not have to have insurance. I called because I was wondering the same thing. :)

Hi bellagirl,

I sent you an email with some suggestions!

Merrysoul :)

Hey guys, yes the physical at Deer Park does include the eye test. Which is the equivalent of a DMV test, just reading it off a wall. Not sure what the breakdown is on cost, but it is included.

For Care Angel. I do not think that San Jac requires health insurance, I know UT does which is included in their cost.

For Bella Girl, i would say to try UT Accelerated program, the prereqs are the same however with an added chemistry class and nutrition. But the upside is that you will get A Bachelor's as opposed to a Associate's, seeing that you already have a bachelor's like some of us. Their HESI Asks for a critical thinking in addition to the other parts. HCC's deadlines are soo far from the first actual day of class, so i didnt even bother.

For Ccukwuac hello!

I am going to be honest here. I would skip applying to HCC. I have taken three of my pre-reqs there and the teachers were awful. That is not to say they all are, but I just don't think they get the cream of the crop. Their facilities are also older. I have not taken anything from San Jacinto, but have had plenty of classes at Lone Star College. They have much nicer labs and honestly all of the professors I have had have been good. If you want to look at community colleges I would look at them as well as they have five campuses with the ADN program. I think your GPA from your prior degree is fine.

Hey everyone!! How is everone liking this new set up??? I don't care for it much. Allnurses.com will be hearing from me shortly. Maybe I shouldn't speak to soon. I'll try and give it a shot for a couple of days.

It seems that in the midst of this new set up some of our posts were lost/deleted. from what I remember, some of us were having issues registering for class....did everyone get cleared away on that? Or are ya'll still waiting for the offices to open to correct some issues. I'm still cannot register for Spring B classes and I'm affraid that its going to effect my financial aid. If you all fond out any information please let me know.

Honestly I have not even tried since that first day for the B classes. Since I am paying for mine I am not all that excited about registering for another set of classes. I got the books I rented and some of them are huge!!

My books are on the way. I received my first set of books yesterday, however one of them (Fundamentals of Nursing) was sent USED and I purchased it new. UGH!!!!!! That book there is super big!

That one is huge. I got all used books because for now I am just renting them.

Do y'all recommend used or new, and why?

I would not recommend new. They cost so much more. As long as you are getting the right edition you can save a ton of money buying used and even more by renting. Just remember you can always buy the rental textbooks.
