Anyone applying for the spring semester!!
Thank you so much merrysoul and emma!
i am a student and have been since kindergarten :) i've never taken a break from school and I am in my 4th year in college. I was originally going for my full on BSN but ended up applying for my ADN and planning on taking a transitional course from RN to BSN instead. I currently work at an assisted living community in Pearland :) that's pretty much my background.
Hey this is Chris. I used the deer park family clinic where the drug tests are done. The physical and shots are in a walk-in basis. Didn't take too long, considering other places, and they offer discounts to San Jacinto Nursing Students. Good Luck everyone see you soon. Also am I the only guy enrolled? :)
Hi everyone. First off congratulations to all that were accepted. Im hoping Ill receive that acceptance letter one day. It has been great reading all of the posts, I think I have been reading back since 2009. I currently live in Denver CO but will be moving to Houston in May 2012 and have been working on getting into nursing school. I already have a Bachelors in Accounting but decided it was time for a career change. In CO most of the nursing programs require you have a CNA license so I work part time as a Home Health Aide while working my full time business analyst job and going to school. This semester Ill finish my last pre reqs, Micro and Psych. I have completed all non essential nursing courses. After these classes I either get in or wait. Im currently looking at San Jac and HCC. I figure Ill apply to both and see who will take me. I still have to take the HESI and not sure if I should take it here or wait till I get down there. Also at HCC you dont need the HESI but the TEAS? I have never heard of that, anyone know anything about it? At least thats what I have read on their site. Any other programs I should consider that are in the area? I want to apply to as many as possible with hopes one will take me. I have a 3.5 in all pre req classes but only a 2.9 when I graduated with my bachelors. Im not sure how that will factor in considering my bachelors is from a different school then where I have been taking my pre reqs. San Jac seems to be tougher to get in but to be honest I have not seen one person post in here that they did not get accepted. Even since back to 2009. That gives me hope. Here in Denver its very competitive and very saturated so its hard to get in anywhere the first try. Plus they only accept around 60 students each semester..IF that.
Any suggestions or helpful hints would greatly be appreciated.
Hey BellaGirl!
It's good to hear that you are pursuing a new career. I think nursing is a great choice! Ive lived here in Houston all my life, and decided to change career paths as well and go into nursing. I have a BSB, and I'm currently in banking. I started researching nursing schools about two years ago, and after completed all pre-read and going through various application processes, I'm happy to say that I'll be starting at San Jac in January. My advice to you would be to take as many of the pre-read that you can. EVERY school is different so their requirements as far as the application processes are different as well. Stay on top of any deadlines that you may have. Testing is quite different as well. I took both TEAS and HESI, study for both! I don't think it matters where you take the HESI, however when you register for the TEAS, you may have to take it in Houston. I will say the HESI is far more easier than the TEAS. That test bites. And I say that because it is timed!!!! Not fun!!! There are a ton o programs here in Houston. Apply to all if you can. How about you instant message me and maybe you could call me so that I can explain more. I have a meeting to attend and it seems that this could go on forever. :)

Hey ccukwak,
You might try calling the clinic where we had to have our drug tests done. They are an after hours clinic on certain days and times. Also check out near by urgent cares. I work in an ER and we did them for students for high school and junior highs, but I'm not sure if we would for nursing school. Start there and let me know if you yield any results! The urgent care on NASA at El Camino was doing them for 25.00!
Good luck!
