Samuel Merritt University ABSN Spring 2021

Published

Hello!

I didn't see a thread for the SMU absn Spring 2021 cohort so I just wanted to start one!

I'm currently in the process of applying right now and working on my personal statements!

Hope you are all staying safe during this crazy time!

Not much hope after such long wait...I have been holding off to study HESI. I guess it’s time to begin! Any tips anyone?

Hi @futurenursekk ! I bought the study prep book that is recommended on SMU’s website! I hope we get emails tomorrow about waitlist (or better yet acceptances).. if I’m #1-10 I don’t think I’ll study for the HESI haha

What about for letter of recommendation? Do we need to request it again? Or can it be carried over to the next application? Since it is for the same application.

If it makes you guys feel better - I haven't started studying either. Since I expected the results to come in October and figured to study if I get rejected. I kept saying, oh just one more day/week and I will know.  I am working 5-6 days a week and taking two classes. So, I have a full plate already...

Now, I am not sure if I will make the deadline.

Wow I’m on the boat as you:( working full time and am taking two online classes. It’s partially my fault because I did not read the requirement through or I was just really hoping not needed to take the TEAS or HESI. I started reviewing the TEAS last month but always behind since I have so much going on right now.

If this cycle does not work don’t give up it’s my first time applying I will keep trying as well! Hope you do too! Great nurses at heart don’t give up easily!

I am right there with you guys. Feel the same and am in similar situation. 2 online courses, working full-time, and been holding out hoping that this will be the day, and it’s now been a month ??‍♀️
I am just starting to prepare. I think I am going to take the TEAS because it seems to be more widely accepted for nursing programs. Originally I was only focusing on the HESI but now that Samuel Merritt accepts the TEAS, I think I’m going to take that route. I am so grateful to have this forum with all of you. It doesn’t take away all of the angst but to know I’m not alone on this confusing and daunting yet hopeful journey makes a huge difference. ?

here’s to a new week with hopefully more clarity! ??

You are definitely not alone! I am also very glad I found this forum where everyone is supportive of this journey. The journey to the healthcare filed could be competitive and exhausting but it’s always about teamwork and holding each other accountable. I’ve been using TEAS mastery app, so fair it’s been great!

Aw, I love this forum!

Out of curiosity - how is everyone planning to pay for the program? Hmm...

For me, I would need loans. I wish I was rich.

Ahh still no word. Rip

You have to request it again. The only thing that roles over is the stuff from the general application. Once you add the program to your application you basically start from scratch when it comes to answering whatever questions or requests that school specifically wants. So it really sucks because you have to get in touch with your recommenders again.

I've been creeping on this forum but decided to sign up to say THANKS to you all. I've had all the same questions and have been checking in see what's going on. I'm also still "being reviewed" and have been so anxious. I've been an LVN for a few years, currently at Stanford (pre-op and OR) and also at PAMF in urgent care. I'm so ready to be an RN, I do all the same things but way less pay! ?

Anyway, thanks again guys! xoxoxoxo.
