Hello!
I didn't see a thread for the SMU absn Spring 2021 cohort so I just wanted to start one!
I'm currently in the process of applying right now and working on my personal statements!
Hope you are all staying safe during this crazy time!
@jaymebear! Wishing you luck! Sounds like you have a ton of good work experience under your belt! I feel like we're all kind of in the same boat more or less so I'm happy there's this forum where we can all support each other through this nursing application process. I do wanna say that there is midterm/finals stress and applying to nursing school stress LOL! but hopefully it won't last too much longer! I'm pretty happy too that I'm working right now as that kind of helps keep me busy instead of anxiously dwelling. Btw to those that are taking classes, I just finished pharmco and pathophysio a few weeks ago and was working full time so I can relate! Just glad the classes are over and have some down time before the program starts up again! if I don't get in, I'll just continue to work at my current job and get a few more LORs from the NPs that I work with and maybe re-take a few prereqs that I got a B in. This is literally the only school I applied to so it's SMU or bust! A little bit stressed that I only have a few weeks to study for the HESI though.. hoping it's not too hard!!
Do ya'll think they're still doing waitlists this year? Ahhhh my friend put the idea in my head, but I was like "they have to be right?? there's no way all 38 people or however people they offered seats to accept?!" Really hope we find out acceptance/waitlist by the end of this week or I'm really going to be stressing!

Has anyone tried contacting admissions since last week? Its just mind boggling that they can give a batch of people their decisions and leave everyone else in the dark. People need to figure out job/living situations. their applications for next cycle. It's super frustrating at this point. If no one had found out I would not have as much of an issue with this. But they're not delaying everyone, they're delaying a section of the applicants ?
Anyone here taking prerequisites at any san mateo community colleges? If I re-take the classes where I got a B, and gets an A in my second attempt, do they average the grade or I get an A in my transcript? I was planning to re-take anatomy since I only got a B but I was told if I get an A on the 2nd try, my grade would just be averaged so I will most likely just get another B or B+... is this true?
@anulahatna that's a good question! I want to say they take the most recent course you took? or maybe the one with the higher grade since you get to pick which course you want to use when filling out that prereq page at the end? So technically you could choose whichever class you wanted to fulfill the prereq..Not sure how that affects on nursingcas GPA though.. I would think they'd just average the grades?

Im actually talking about the san mateo community college themselves. Like if I re-take them, I was told that they average the grade so from B, I will just get another B or B+, which will be posted in my transcript as my final grade. Which for me is pointless because my goal is to change my grade to A. I’m not sure if this is true. Anybody have tried this before and actually got an A and not the average?
So if you repeat the course, both courses will be on your transcript. It depends on the school you apply to . SMU will average both grades but other schools like SFSU will take the best one.

They never take courses off transcripts. If you get a course excused there will be a E next tk the course. Legally schools don’t take courses off. I’ve taken most of mY pre-reqs there and have talked to my counseloR and admissions about this.
and they onlY do excused on your transcript if it’s like a D or F LOL.

Yes your grades will be averaged. But depends on school you’re applying to if they take the average or take the higher grade.

Thank you! Did anyone’s admitted student portal change? Looks like the BSN program did
