Samuel Merritt University ABSN Spring 2021

Published

Hello!

I didn't see a thread for the SMU absn Spring 2021 cohort so I just wanted to start one!

I'm currently in the process of applying right now and working on my personal statements!

Hope you are all staying safe during this crazy time!

Anyone got any news? I didn’t

Based on the trend it seems as if emails only come at around 7am. Based on that I don't think any more will be sent today, and someone said they don't work weekends. So that means sometime next week potentially? I think its ridiculous to do this sort of "rolling acceptances" or whatever you want to call it. Has anyone even gotten a rejection email? I think theres only 1 so far that said they got waitlisted

I just called in to the general number. The woman I spoke to (who is solely a representative for SM—not admissions) said that the faculty released decisions to admissions 2 days ago and that the admissions dept has to go through each one and may not be in any particular order. I was left more confused, tbh. I’m going to continue to practice patience and wait ?? this will be behind us soon. Good luck everyone!!

So I guess what she’s trying to say is that they’re not done notifying people of acceptances? Okay that makes me feel better!!

For whatever this is worth, I worked as a RN in another country for years and have a GPA of 3.5 overall, higher in sciences. I still think I have a strong application and feel there is no pattern to their acceptance method. Could be wrong, but compared to applicants who got in it seems competitive. All I am trying to say is perhaps whoever got in already was random. So lets keep the faith! Good luck to all!

I should clarify my application is still "under review"

It just doesn't make sense to me why they'd send it out in waves, especially rejections. Has anyone asked them why?

Yeah I second this especially since everyone has the same letter of intent date. If anything, it makes much more sense to have a wait list, and then when the LOI date rolls by, depending on how many people turn down the offer to start pulling people from the waitlist.. And it does seem like quite a few people got accepted on Wednesday.. and that's only counting who are on this forum..

Oh- wait so you mean, you think people got a letter are the ones who got accepted  and just seeing if people reject/accept?

@starter12345 Hmm.. I think they sent out all their acceptances already.. and are selecting people for the waitlist and rank ordering them right now. I think for those who haven't heard yet, we'll find out soon if we've been waitlisted (and what number) or denied.
From what I read in previous year's threads, one person said "it's a burst of acceptances, and then a burst of waitlists and then another burst of acceptances" after that.. which makes sense given that after the LOI deadline, the greatest # of spots open up and prob a lot of movement off the waitlist!!

But I did read that in previous cohorts, as many as 10-15 people get in off the waitlist for SM! Don't know how true that is, but more than a few people have said that..

Does anyone know how many applications they got last year for each semester cohort?? I think someone on here may have mentioned it but I can’t find the post :/

How many of you still need to take the TEAS or HESI exam for Dec 1st cycle? I’m only asking because I do and I held out from taking it, assuming I would have been notified of my decision in mid-October. I’ve been preparing for TEAS. Anyone else preparing for either exam? Thoughts on TEAS vs HESI (challenge/preparation wise) or any experience to share?
Thanks to anyone who can provide any info.

Hi @klk1333! I was just  about to ask everyone applying for dec 1 deadline if they’ve taken it yet! I just realized I needed to take this ?

I think I’m going to take the HESI since I already have the test prep book (the one recommended by SMU on their site). I haven’t looked at the TEAS yet so not sure  the diff between the two and which is more challenging.. I’ve heard the HESI might be easier? I’m a lil stressed right now trying to study for this since we only have 3 weeks to go.. how are you studying for it??

I’m going to take remote proctoring TEAS if I don’t hear by next week from SMU. They have available dates up to end of Nov. but I would hold off on signing up bc you can’t refund
