Hello all! I am new to Allnurses and I recently decided to change my academic career path from biomedical engineering to nursing. I am (hopefully) going to graduate from San Jose State University in May 2017. I was wondering if anyone has applied/ got accepted to Samuel Merritt's Accelerated BSN program? I was wondering if it's a hard school to get into? I am hoping to apply for Fall 2017. My engineering GPA is not that great but I already took the TEAS and did pretty well on that; I also need to complete Micro, A&P, Nutrition, and a couple other nursing pre-reqs.
Hello @sunvisor,
I finally heard from SMU, confirming they received my application...phew..I was getting al little nervous. But to answer your question, yes everything was received & verified by NursingCAS before I submitted the application on April 1st. Hopefully we get updates or feedback soon regarding the admission status. Are you applying to the San Mateo or SAC campus?

That's weird you got it so late. I applied May 1 and SMU sent me an email May 3. I'm applying to San Mateo campus.
I finally heard back from SMU directly too! I applied mid February and just this past Wednesday I received an email for my application status saying that my application has been reviewed and they gave me a summary of my classes and test. I'm now supposed to reply with any changes in order for my application to move forward to the next step.
Thanks @shelgym! I'll be going to CSU San Marcos. It's about 70miles from home so I'll still have to move but I wouldve had to move for SMU anyway :/ So many loans
You should definitely look into it if SMU doesn't work out. I originally applied for summer 2017 but never heard back then suddenly heard back saying I was in for Fall 2017! So their applications are on a rolling basis for a year it seems.
@drose17 I was wondering about the likelihood of a Fall 2017 cohort at the Sacramento campus also. So you got an email from the Dean about it? I only noticed after I applied (I listed Sacramento as my only choice) that the Sacramento campus is no longer listed under the Fall cohorts on the SMU website. I contacted the program director to inquire about it and she basically just said that if the Fall cohort doesn't get approved for 2017 in Sacramento, then those applicants who applied for Fall would be offered admission to the Spring 2018 cohort there instead. I'm hoping that is the case, but I'm just getting anxious to hear something back now, as I still don't see Sacramento listed on the website for Fall. I had planned to have one course IP over the summer in order to complete it by Fall admission (if i we're to get in) but if there's not going to be a Fall Cohort and instead I were offered admission in the spring, I would rather take that course this Fall instead, as I could do it at a campus near my home (Stockton) instead of having to complete it over the summer in Folsom! 😬
@Jazzy319 The email they sent out said they were pretty sure there would be a fall cohort in Sacramento, but there is a chance that there won't be and they wanted to prepare us, in case they weren't approved for 2 application periods. Sounded like they were covering their bases, but there shouldn't be a problem. They said they would find out around June, when they should also be letting us know about our acceptances.
