Hey everyone,
I know this is early, but the application period for the fall Sacramento and San Mateo cohort will soon be here! This might be the first thread. Anyway, application deadline isn't until April, but if people could post their past and current GPA's and their HESI test scores so I can get idea of what the pool of applicants is like. It is so hard to tell what a good application is for every application period.
My last 60 units GPA 3.9
Science GPA 3.1 (Maybe 3.5 if I can submit my new chemistry class that ends May 4th -- hopefully with a grade A in May).
HESI scores -- taking in February and in March -- if I have to retake it.
Working as an EMT for 7 months.
No volunteer experience.
Hey @boogalooga I'm in patho right now through sbcc! for me the most difficult part is balancing my time with my other classes (I'm taking micro right now also) but the class is definitely manageable! It's a lot of new terminology for me, but also there is an anatomy and physiology component to it so there is some review. similar to what others have been saying, i've been reviewing the PPT's and reading + taking notes and then looking for practice questions on quizlet to quiz myself and i have seen some similar questions. You'll be fine if you can balance your time! it is a ton of info and each quiz is on 2 chapters that are fulllll of stuff but i agree with btenjamin as long as your learning from it I don't think we're expected to have every single thing memorized (at least I hope not)
Hope that helps you! :)
Is this program regionally and nationally accrediated?
Hi newnursefiu! Samuel Merritt University is fully accredited, regionally and nationally (BRN, WASC, CCNE). You can refer to their website for more information. Program Accreditation | Samuel Merritt University
I hope this helps!
Unless you're paying ca$h you will undoubtedly need to take out a private loan for this school given the cost of the program. The maximum government aid you can take out is around $54,000. The tuition alone at SMu is over $75,000.
Check nerdwallet.com on information on private loans.
Hey goldenbsn, I met with a financial aid counselor at SMU about paying for the ABSN and they showed me that since we already have our bachelors, the max gov. aid was about $12k a semester and only 2 or 3 times for that year (I forget how many). I'm not positive we're talking about the same thing because taking out loans and receiving financial aid is kinda foreign to me, but that's what I remember from my conversation with them!
Is anyone in my boat where they put in their application for Fall with one of the main 4 science classes still pending? I'm finishing Micro next week, but worried that since it wasn't completed at the time of application (like they recommend) that I'll automatically be out. Do you know of anyone prior who had applied with one science still pending and they still got admitted?

I'm still finishing micro as well. I don't think it's an issue, or else they wouldn't allow you to apply if still continuing. I think going off of your other courses they can make a judgement call on what kind of grades you get/what kind of student you are.
Since we have some time until we get notified I thought I ask everyone what they want to specialize in as a nurse. I would like to do ER, but I'm open-minded to doing something else.
Also, does anyone get in the habit of reading past forums and seeing if similar applicants in stats to yourself were able to get in?

Hey acjames75, I'm also in Micro finishing next week! I'm a little nervous too about having a science class in progress...the counselor said they generally recommend having all sciences done at the time of the application but that I was welcome to apply. I've looked at forums from previous years and seen students who were accepted with a science in progress so I'm hopeful :) like @kellyj531 said hopefully they can make a judgement call based on your other grades!
Also, I called the office of admissions today to see how to go about submitting the final grade for my in progress classes, they said that you send the official transcript directly to samuel merritt NOT through nursingcas. Anyone else had any input on that?

I found some of the practice questions on quizlet. If you honestly type the practice questions on google, the first thing that pops up is quizlet, which makes it easier to study from. Most of the questions are drawn from that.
