Samuel Merritt Fall 2018 ABSN Program

Published

Hey everyone,

I know this is early, but the application period for the fall Sacramento and San Mateo cohort will soon be here! This might be the first thread. Anyway, application deadline isn't until April, but if people could post their past and current GPA's and their HESI test scores so I can get idea of what the pool of applicants is like. It is so hard to tell what a good application is for every application period.

My last 60 units GPA 3.9

Science GPA 3.1 (Maybe 3.5 if I can submit my new chemistry class that ends May 4th -- hopefully with a grade A in May).

HESI scores -- taking in February and in March -- if I have to retake it.

Working as an EMT for 7 months.

No volunteer experience.

Hello!

I'll be applying for the fall 2018 cohort as well. I'm hoping to get into Sacramento.

My B.A. is in Psychology and Social Behavior from UC Irvine

Last 60 units GPA: 3.69

Science GPA: 4.0 (still have to take micro)

Hesi score: 93.2% (I just took it today!)

Volunteer at John Muir Hospital Walnut Creek

Work experience: was previously a counselor at a residential eating disorder facility, interned at an HIV/AIDS nonprofit.

Congrats! What study material did you use?

Thank you! I used 3 books:

-Hesi Admission Assessment Exam Review Edition 4 (very helpful)

-Trivium Hesi A2 Study Guide (not as helpful)

-3 Hesi Admission Assessment Exam Practice Tests (helped but there are some incorrect answers in the key so you have to watch out for those)

I also used the pocket prep app, and all of my A&P notes because none of the books go into that enough. You can also search my name (Kellyj531) on quizlet and there is the vocab list i studied from.

Hi guys!

I am also applying for Fall 2018, and this will be my first try.

I have a B.S. in Human Development from UC Davis

Science GPA: 3.6

Overall GPA: 3.9

Hesi score: 97%

I am currently receiving my CNA certification (my test is next week, eek!) and I will work as a CNA until I begin nursing school (Wherever that will be... haha), I've volunteered at the UC Davis Medical Center in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, at Sutter Davis in the Surgery Room, as an activities intern at a local retirement community, and I have experience as a in-home caregiver for a grandmother that had Dementia for about a year.

I still have to write my personal statements and format my CV!

Hi!

I applied last week for the Fall 2018 ABSN at Sacramento.

BS: Business (Accounting) - CSUS

My last 60 units: should be above a 3.75 (I never calculated it)

HESI: 96%

Voluteer experience: 1 year at Sutter L&D

Fingers crossed we all get in. This want is going to be agonizing!

Hey @moojoo great job on your HESI score! I'm also applying to fall, I've taken the HESI once, I got a 90.4%, I'm going to retake March 23 to see if I can improve (I'd like to be in the mid 90's). What did you use to study?

Thank you! I think I was just lucky to have gotten questions that I knew the answers to! I used the Elsevier study guide and pocket prep (full version). I went through each page for math, just jot down some conversions, roman numerals, metric measurements and used that as a memorization sheet. For reading, I didnt really study at all, I just read thru Elsevier. For anatomy, I looked through all of my old anatomy and physio notes, then watched crash course youtube videos for systems I never learned (circulatory, skeletal, lympathics), and made a little cheat sheet about things i should remember for each system and later committed those to memory. For grammar, I looked thru the elsevier guide, and googled exam questions. I googled a LOT of exam questions plus using pocket prep! Your score is already amazing, good job!! :) Good luck on March 23!!

I applied to the Fall program as well! Good luck everyone!!

Hi! I'm applying to SMU for fall also, this will be my first attempt at applying. I'm hoping for Sacramento but open to San Mateo as well

BS in Health Admin from Chico

science gpa: 4.0- micro in progress now...i'm Hoping having a science pre-req in progress won't ruin my chance of getting in for fall. The counselor suggested having all sciences completed at the time of applying, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

last 60: probably around a 3.5 I haven't calculated

hesi: 90.4, retaking at the end of March to see if I improve

experience: I've been a dialysis technician for the last year and a half, I also had an internship in college with the chief flight nurse of a hospital.

Good luck to everyone! I'm getting nervous, can't believe it's finally here

Does anyone know what we need to include in the CV as it pertains to the application? I'm just putting all the things I put on my app on my CV...it feels redundant. Wondering if anyone has any tips/advice for the CV portion of the app. Thanks!

I just submitted my application last week. I'm so nervous!

BS in Psychology with a Biology emphasis from UC Davis

Last 60 units GPA: 3.51

Science pre-req GPA: 3.46

HESI: 95.2%

Experience: --1 year working for the Chief of Surgery at a major academic hospital doing various random things including scientific writing, coordinating a tumor board program for cancer patients (with a nurse), helping with stem cell research for fetal disorders, and working with a global children's surgery organization. --2 years volunteering for a research lab that studies the effects of stress on physical and mental health. --Was licensed as an EMT

The deadline hasn't even passed and I'm already compulsively checking my email...it's going to be a long couple of months. Good luck to everyone!
