Hey everyone,
I know this is early, but the application period for the fall Sacramento and San Mateo cohort will soon be here! This might be the first thread. Anyway, application deadline isn't until April, but if people could post their past and current GPA's and their HESI test scores so I can get idea of what the pool of applicants is like. It is so hard to tell what a good application is for every application period.
My last 60 units GPA 3.9
Science GPA 3.1 (Maybe 3.5 if I can submit my new chemistry class that ends May 4th -- hopefully with a grade A in May).
HESI scores -- taking in February and in March -- if I have to retake it.
Working as an EMT for 7 months.
No volunteer experience.
Hey everyone,
I applied for the Fall 2018 ABSN program for Sacramento and San Mateo also.
My BA is in Biology from CSUN
I have a Master's in Ed from LMU
Science GPA: 3.6
Overall GPA: 3.8
Hesi : 91.6%
Still need to take 3 pre-req's that didn't transfer over, but I will be done with those by June
Experience: Volunteered for a year at UCLA hospital, did a Mending Kids INternational Mission trip with Cedar's Sinai, and volunteered at the Student Health Center on my campus for a year.
I am so nervous! I have been diligently reading through previous years to get an idea when we will hear back. It seems like most Fall applicants hear end of May- it's going to be a long two months. Good Luck everyone!
Hey there,
I'm willing to make the commute too, so I'm gonna say that we're just super dedicated! If that's the only place I get accepted to, I can't move out there because it's way too expensive- and I figured I'd listen to lecture recordings to take place of some review because that's a long commute, and we'll need to be studying a lot. Good luck!
Hi everyone!!
The deadline just passed and I thought I would check-in:nailbiting:
I applied to Sacramento as the primary campus, and San Mateo as the secondary campus.
I got my BS in Psychobiology from a UC.
Last 60 units GPA:~3.55
HESI: 93.2%
Patient Care Experience: ~525 hours volunteered in a hospital, ~8 months as a Patient Care Coordinator in a Walk-In Clinic
Letters of Recommendation: Chemistry Professor, Family Nurse Practitioner, Director of Departments from my Volunteer Program
Currently anxious to hear back!! I am still taking prerequisites so hopefully that can keep my mind off of this, and maybe I can start preparing for the July deadline. Good luck to everyone:happy:
I've read various things in forums on here ranging from May to August, but according to the SMU ABSN application timeline in the link below, other ABSN cohorts that submitted their application March 1st heard back end of May. So using that timeline (applying April 1st), I would hope we hear by end of June. This info seems kind of out of date though...

I was able to get an 88% on the HESI, which I don't think is great.
3.9 GPA in last 60 units
3.1 GPA in Science
EMT for 1 year
No volunteer experience.
I was able to get 5 recommendation letters, which is the limit.
I'm applying for San Mateo and Sacramento. Although, San Mateo would be anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 hour commute. Anyone else willing to commute that far, or am I the only insane one?
