Hey everyone,
I know this is early, but the application period for the fall Sacramento and San Mateo cohort will soon be here! This might be the first thread. Anyway, application deadline isn't until April, but if people could post their past and current GPA's and their HESI test scores so I can get idea of what the pool of applicants is like. It is so hard to tell what a good application is for every application period.
My last 60 units GPA 3.9
Science GPA 3.1 (Maybe 3.5 if I can submit my new chemistry class that ends May 4th -- hopefully with a grade A in May).
HESI scores -- taking in February and in March -- if I have to retake it.
Working as an EMT for 7 months.
No volunteer experience.
I took pathophysiology at SBCC last summer and was able to get an A in the class. I found it helpful to make Quizlets and test myself throughout the day (like if I had a break at work I would go on my phone and pull up my flashcards). I also did the reading days in advance to give myself time to absorb the material. I know it's a tough class but just keep focused and study hard! Good luck!
Hey @btenjamin, I'm taking pathophysiology through SBCC right now and mine is an accelerated course (only 8 weeks) not sure if yours is like that. It's definitely difficult i'm Finding it really challenging to retain all of the info but I've been trying to study because I'm worried we will need to know a lot of this stuff for actual nursing school. Anyone else having this problem?
Hi everyone. I'm taking patho and pharm at sbcc as well. Some parts were easy and some had so much information that it's hard to retain! I'm not sure what grade they want but I think taking the class and passing it is required. How much of the info you retain and commit to yourself will ultimately benefit (or not...) your time as a nursing student.
I didn't receive an email about passing prelims yet!
@btenjamin Yes it's sooo difficult, and I'm taking Micro right now also so splitting my time has been such a challenge. I bought the book for patho and I've been trying really hard to learn the info so hopefully it sticks..
Also, I saw you said you received an email that you passed the preliminary phase of the application? Just curious when did you get that, I've only heard they received my application..
I'm just glad the Patho class I'm taking allows for two attempts on the quizzes, or else I would be doomed.
Well the email said they had "completed the preliminary review of it." I talked to someone at Samuel Merritt and they said that is a good thing. The person I spoke with also said they hope to send results out by mid-May to the end of May.

I received an email that they received my application and I passed the preliminary part of the application process, which I think is a good thing.
Side note: Did anyone take pathophysiology from SBCC (Santa Barbara City College)? I'm taking it and finding it very difficult and stressful especially with their proctoring system (Proctorio).
