Hey everyone,
I know this is early, but the application period for the fall Sacramento and San Mateo cohort will soon be here! This might be the first thread. Anyway, application deadline isn't until April, but if people could post their past and current GPA's and their HESI test scores so I can get idea of what the pool of applicants is like. It is so hard to tell what a good application is for every application period.
My last 60 units GPA 3.9
Science GPA 3.1 (Maybe 3.5 if I can submit my new chemistry class that ends May 4th -- hopefully with a grade A in May).
HESI scores -- taking in February and in March -- if I have to retake it.
Working as an EMT for 7 months.
No volunteer experience.
Hello! Long time lurker here, so I figured I should jump in now that the ball is finally rolling. Nice to meet you all!
I have applied for the Sacramento cohort. A tidbit about myself:
- MA in Counselor Education at San Jose State
- BA in Psychology/Education Studies minor at UC San Diego
- Last 60 units GPA: 3.9
- Science GPA: 4.0 (all completed)
- HESI: 92%
- Volunteer/work experience: I was previously a student services advisor at an edtech startup. My background in counseling and rising passion in healthcare led me to working as an Instructional Assistant/allied health tutor (mostly nutrition and A&P) while taking my prerequisites. Outside of school, I've been volunteering at my county's adult day health center in the nursing clinic and med/surg unit at UCDMC. The charge nurses I've worked with have been so supportive in this long journey that they offered to be my references.
Pathophysiology is my only course in progress right now. I agree that it is a lot of information to absorb, but I'm thankful for having the same instructor who I had for A&P 2. He's also my other recommender.
I also received an email from Samuel Merritt about completing the preliminary review. Now the real freak-out period starts!
I look forward to collaborating with you all. Best wishes!
Hi everyone-
I also applied to the Fall 2018, Sacramento preferred. My stats:
-Last 60 units: 3.87
-Total Prereq: 3.81 - 3.89 (depending on either A or B in Micro, finishing that class now in 3 weeks)
-Science Prereq: 3.5 - 3.72 (depending on Micro)
-HESI score 94%
I got the email about the preliminary review too. I applied earlier too, back in February, so the wait has been KILLING me. I'm nervous for my chances after reading about so many high scores from other applicants now! What do you all think of my chances?
I'm on the same boat as you! I also submitted my application way back in mid-February, so the waiting period is indeed brutal. Your stats look great! The stats (objectives) will be one thing, but your LORS and background experience (subjectives) will also be weighed in. My impression is that they "holistically" evaluate applicants based on the "fit" for the program.
Hi all! For those of you who received the preliminary notification, did your email start off as "Thank you for your interest in the Samuel Merritt University"?

Mine said " Thank you for Applying to Samuel Merritt University!"
That was the email title, but the first line of the email was "Thank you for your interest in the Samuel Merritt University"
