Samuel Merritt Fall 2018 ABSN Program

Published

Hey everyone,

I know this is early, but the application period for the fall Sacramento and San Mateo cohort will soon be here! This might be the first thread. Anyway, application deadline isn't until April, but if people could post their past and current GPA's and their HESI test scores so I can get idea of what the pool of applicants is like. It is so hard to tell what a good application is for every application period.

My last 60 units GPA 3.9

Science GPA 3.1 (Maybe 3.5 if I can submit my new chemistry class that ends May 4th -- hopefully with a grade A in May).

HESI scores -- taking in February and in March -- if I have to retake it.

Working as an EMT for 7 months.

No volunteer experience.

Does anyone know where I can find the Fall schedule for Sacramento 2017?

Nevermind, found it! :)

Has anyone heard anything about when we hear back, like a specific date?

Last year I believe they heard on May 25 around 8:10 am. So that's when i'm hoping we'll hear (if not sooner!). Definitely waking up early that day haha

Hi All!

I also applied to SMU San Mateo Fall 2018 cohort.

Here are my stats:

Degree: Human Bio (UCSD)

Science prereq GPA: 4.0 (pending pathophys at SBCC) *interpersonal comm & developmental psych is in progress*

Last 60 units GPA: 3.9

HESI: 91.6%

Work experience: current medical assistant (2.5 years) & acute care CNA

Letters: Charge RN & professor

Volunteer exp: Medical internship in China & Camp counselor for Muscular Dystropy Association

I was updated the first time when nursingCAS completed my preliminary review. Then SMU emailed me on 4/24 to notify me that my app is under faculty review. I also reached out to my employer and recommenders if SMU has contacted them for verification - and they haven't. I've been obessively checking my email this entire month!

Good luck everyone :)

Actually, it does makes sense. I believe SMU and other programs use nursingCAS for just the preliminary review. Once applications are under faculty review, SMU handles it from there. So "in progress" class grades should be reported directly to the admissions office. I'll also verify and update you all :)

So I just finished my patho and pharmacology classes for sbcc. Should I send my transcripts to SMU?

Or wait for admission statuses first? Haha

Hey everyone

I never got an email that said my application is under faculty review, should I be worried ?

I could be wrong, but so far it seems like the only people who have received the faculty review email are those who still had any main pre-reqs in progress...

Oh, it could be? But I cleared up all my in-progress classes after they confirmed that my app passed preliminary review. The faculty review is the final step according to the info session.

Did SMU contact anyone's employer/recommenders?

I believe the preliminary review is to make sure you met the baseline requirements. For instance, making sure you took/about to take the right classes, meeting the GPA requirements, appropriate HESI test scores, etc. That way, the faculty will review applications that have passed the preliminary round. That's my guess!

Yes, I agree with you!

Btw, I just checked NursingCas and on the home page it states "send application updates to your submitted program".

I just noticed that you're also a UCSD alum. Go Tritons!
