Samuel Merritt Fall 2018 ABSN Program

Published

Hey everyone,

I know this is early, but the application period for the fall Sacramento and San Mateo cohort will soon be here! This might be the first thread. Anyway, application deadline isn't until April, but if people could post their past and current GPA's and their HESI test scores so I can get idea of what the pool of applicants is like. It is so hard to tell what a good application is for every application period.

My last 60 units GPA 3.9

Science GPA 3.1 (Maybe 3.5 if I can submit my new chemistry class that ends May 4th -- hopefully with a grade A in May).

HESI scores -- taking in February and in March -- if I have to retake it.

Working as an EMT for 7 months.

No volunteer experience.

Oh my gosh, end of June!!! I agree, I don't think I can survive that long without knowing! Haha. Well at least we're all in the same boat. It will be really stressful if they roll out notifications over an extended period and people have heard back before others :(

Hi guys,

I just received this message from the admissions counselor Kirsten Peterson in a email.

"The admission decisions for the fall 2018 ABSN cohort will not be out until mid-late June, however, the faculty are already reviewing the applications"

So I guess we can go into the long weekend not checking our email every 10 mins like I do. I guess we have at least 2 more weeks before we become restless again. I was really hoping they would let us know by this week, so I can decide if I should decline my USD MEPN spot or start making arrangement to move there. It's a beautiful campus but program together with cost of living is too much and I will loose 13 years of seniority at Kaiser but if I get in at SMU I can go down to on call and keep my years of service.

Thats such a long time.. *cries* Thanks for showing the email! I didn't receive the e-mail. It's weird how the e-mails are sent to some people and not to others, and mid-june/end-june is so late T_T, maybe theyre just trying to send them all at once instead of trickling like last year's fall cohort.

End of June?! That is insane! I already paid a deposit at two other schools and one starts in the end of July... looks like I likely will not be attending SMU even if I get in. Why do they make us wait so long?! *sigh*

which other two schools are you accepted at? Congrats!

Hey @kprvs did you receive that email from Kirsten today? I haven't had any correspondence with them since they notified me that my application passed the preliminary review

I didn't receive an email either besides the prelimin/faculty review updates. I think you'd have to have had emailed a counselor inquiring about the status.

I emailed Kirsten last week asking about how to update them of my completion of microbiology this spring, and this was her response back to me a few days later: "Good morning. The NursingCAS academic update period is from May 30, 2018-July 25, 2018. During this time, you can update your microbiology course. You can request to have your official transcript sent to NursingCAS. Admission decisions for the fall 2018 cohort will not be out until mid-late June."

So there you have it. Another month to wait! UGH.

Let us know if you were able to update on NursingCas :)!

edit.

Nvm, I found out how! Haha another month-ish of waiting guyssss

well, on the bright side, they'll be able to determine acceptances including grades from classes any of us just finished up, and that may raise our last 60 units GPAs. Still so disappointed we have to wait soooo much longer! It gives a lot less time to figure out financial aid, housing, etc... If I get into sac i'll be moving up there, and my birthday is next week too and I was hoping to know whether to ask for money to furnish a new apartment or not!

I emailed Kirsten on Wednesday inquiring about the status when we are going to be notified. She emailed me back yesterday.

Pretty frustrating...seems like they do this to every cohort so I'm unfortunately not surprised. Hopefully their admissions process doesn't indicate the level of organization within the actual program.
