Hello,
I didn't see a thread for the Fall 2016 ELMSN, FNP program. I recently applied to Samuel Merritt's ELMSN, FNP program in Oakland, CA. Has any one else applied? Any graduates have any feedback? I'm really excited about Samuel Merritt's Family Nurse Practitioner program. I'd really like to pursue primary and mental health. With that, I think a focus on FNP first would help.
Hey gstoss, KO_1219, and benrzThanks for a fun interview! I hope we will see each other in the future. Please post on this thread when you hear back?

It was nice meeting you Yendi! That interview was nothing like I've had before out of the three MSN interviews I've gone through. I'll definitely be sure to provide y'all an update whenever we hear back.
The same thing happened to me. I did eventually get it figured out in time for them to call for an interview, but I was very worried! Apparently, if you enter in a university that is not in the scroll down list of automated options, it will not work. I'm glad you got accepted in elsewhere but hopefully this explanation helps ease your mind! :)
Hi PPMM, I had a similar experience with Nursing CAS. They never sent my info in to Samuel Merritt and never emailed me to let me know why. By the time I figured it out, everyone else was getting interview calls, so I was out of the running this year. Luckily I got in somewhere else. But I do think it is important to call Samuel Merritt admissions and let them know about our experiences so they can make it better in the future! Best of luck to you!!
Yeah, super-duper bummer indeed! I had to send updated fall 2015 grades to NursingCAS earlier this month during the academic update period. While NursingCAS was verifying and updating my transcripts, you guys were posting that you were getting interview calls. Looks like I'm out of the running this year, boo! I'm kind of wondering if SMU even reviewed my application after the new grades came in (I'm also taking one last pre-req that finishes in May, so I wonder if that hurt me as well). Do grades that aren't in by the application deadline affect your admission status? The website does say as long as they are complete by entry of the program... Oh well... I really hoped I'd be called for an interview. I have a 4.0 in bost-bac pre-reqs, a 3.8 cumulative undergrad gpa from a top 5 ranked university. I scored an 86 overall in the TEAS. I worked as an EMT for a year and have 2 years working in direct patient care at a community clinic. I'm hoping that the reason I wasn't called was because things were still in flux on my application, but you honestly never know with an acceptance rate hovering around 10%. There could be something "off" in my application/experience/etc that I need to reflect upon and figure out how to fix. Either way, it's a bummer! Good luck to everyone waiting for those final decisions. From what you've all posted, you are all serious candidates and if you don't end up at SMU, I hope you end up somewhere equally exciting and fitting :)Did anyone else make use of the academic update period? Is anyone else still working on pre-reqs?
Email or call and find out why! Always good to know how to improve! I hate not knowing why something didn't work out the way I though it would.
Best,
Y.
At PPMM. Wow, you sound like a very competitive candidate. Yes, you can apply with classes in progress like I did with physiology. I received my Physiology grade in Jan. for my Fall 2015 semester and updated it in NursingCAS (from "in progress" to "complete" with the final grade). Also, I had to have the university resend my transcript to NursingCAS. I did get confirmation from NursingCAS that they updated my transcript. Luckily, I called NursingCAS too which expedited their search for my transcript and the updated transcript review.
All my best wishes to you and all. Let's stay determined!
What do you all think of the subtle industry push for NPs to have their DNP instead of MSN? If we all were to start this program at SMU, it'd be almost 2020 by the time we graduate with the MSN, FNP. Are any of you slightly worried that we'd have to at some point turn around and go back to school for the DNP? I know it's not necessarily a requirement, but with an MSN, FNP with little to no clinical experience, do you think it may be difficult to find a job when other FNP new grads may have their DNP instead?
Has anyone heard anything yet? I received the acceptance email this morning from SMU for the FNP program and excited to know who will be on the same cohort as me. Good luck to everyone!
Congratulations LoveFNP2b! That's great news. I haven't heard anything yet but will post as soon as I hear anything. I think we may have interviewed in the same group (3pm on 2/10).

Congratulations LoveFNP2b ! Glad they're already sending out admission notifications. I had my interview on 2/16, so I wonder if they're accepting people chronologically by the times they had their interviews. Here's to checking my email every five minutes! Lol congrats again

Wow with your great experience and academic stats, I would have thought you were a sure in at least for an interview! You have much more experience than I do and better stats. I've heard of people still having a prereq or two outstanding and being admitted still unless it was an important science prereq. Have you tried contacting them or did you receive a confirmation email that your application was received? I honestly believe that they either did not read your application or some sort of technical error must have occurred. Very strange...
