I haven't found a thread for this yet, so I figured I would start one! I am applying in August, after I have my grades from my summer courses. I was wondering what stats other applicants have as well :) I still have to complete human physio lab, general chem and lab, nutrition, and psych so I am not sure if I will get in this time around, but it can't hurt to apply!

You will be able to see the group. It is a closed group, however, anyone can see the group/group members except the comments/postings. Once added to the group, you can see all the posts, etc. Make sure you are typing it in exactly "Samuel Merritt University - ABSN Oakland - Class of 2014". I am applying to ABSN and ELMSN for Summer 2014. I would also like to volunteer at an Oakland/ Berkeley hospital or clinic. I was hoping someone could share experiences both good and bad, regarding volunteer locales.Thank you so much!
I think volunteering at a hospital or clinic is a great idea to gain additional healthcare/patient experience. Not sure where in the Bay Area you live, though John Muir and Sutter-Alta Bates have volunteer programs. I've both worked at John Muir and volunteered for the hospital - they have a great volunteer program. Kaiser has a volunteer program also. Your volunteer experience will not only be helpful in your application to any RN program, but will also provide you with valuable healthcare and some patient care experience. SMU and many other programs consider all your attributes when reviewing your application package including: grades, work history/resume, references, writing samples, TEAS score, healthcare experience, volunteer and extra curricular activities, etc.

I found out on Friday that I was put on the wait list (#8 of 21) for the Oakland cohort. I have a question for those of you who were accepted: by what date do you need to confirm your acceptance/turn in your deposit? I'm hoping that some of us waitlisters might hear from Samuel Merritt soon after this date.

My letter from SMU says to send in the letter of intent (either accepting or declining the offer) by 4/10/13. I'm sure as spots are declined; SMU will contact those on the wait list. I was reading the blog for ELMSN Fall 2013, folks near the top of the wait list were notified within a week (a few people had already declined). Good luck to you and hope you hear some news soon. :)
Hey everyone. For the waitlisters - I made contact with SMU and was told that waitlists remain active until the first day of school but that we have no way of knowing when/if movement might occur regarding admission. Good luck everyone!! Keep praying, hoping, wishing, believing!
I am not usually this technilogically challenged, but I can't seem to find it no matter what I type in the search bar on Facebook. I've even tried copy and pasting exactly what you typed here and it still didn't work. Is it possible for you to send me an invitation if I PM you my Facebook user ID (I don't know if Facebook has that capability or not)?
Hi tlsmith29, I'm sorry you're unable to find the Facebook page (there are a lot of Samuel Merritt.... groups) out there! I did a quick search on Facebook and couldn't find the group.....if it's a closed group will it not come up in a search?
