Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2013

U.S.A. California

Published

I haven't found a thread for this yet, so I figured I would start one! I am applying in August, after I have my grades from my summer courses. I was wondering what stats other applicants have as well :) I still have to complete human physio lab, general chem and lab, nutrition, and psych so I am not sure if I will get in this time around, but it can't hurt to apply!

Pervious major: Cell and Molecular Biology

Last 60 GPA: 3.4

Prereq GPA (so far): 3.9

TEAS Adjusted Individual Score: 92.7%

TEAS National and Program Percentile Rank: 99

Im excited to connect with other prospective students :)

I have heard about Samuel Merritt, but don't know much about it. I am in Sacramento, so I will be applying to Sac State early next year. May I ask why you chose Samuel Merritt? Is it a pretty good program? Sac State's ABSN is 16 months and about $35k, what's yours?

I was thinking of applying to Samuel Merritt in Sacramento. But the price scares me. I am applying to the community colleges in order to get into the lottery but I don't know how patient I can be so Samuel Merritt is not completely out of the question for me...however where did you take your pharmacology and pathophysiology?

I chose Samuel Merritt after researching the school and talking to current students. It seems like a very well rounded program, but still shorter than the traditional BSN programs. It is a 12 month program, and I believe it is about $70,000

I forgot to add those in- I haven't taken them yet but I plan on taking them through SMU Spring '13

Specializes in Peds, Med-Surg, Disaster Nsg, Parish Nsg.

Moved to California State Nursing Programs for more response.

Good luck to all of you!!

If you continue on with those stats, I guarantee that you'll get in for sure. I know someone that got in with a 3.4 GPA and 80% TEAS score! If you're somewhat of a decent writer, you should honestly get in! Seriously! (and no...i'm not just saying this to hype you up, you really do have a great shot!)

In regards to completing the remaining prereqs....that is DEFINITELY doable. Psych and nutrition are extremely easy! Just find a community college that teaches it online. In regards to physio/lab, I took that at cayuga community college online as well. So, the only class that you would actually have to show up to is chem. But hey...don't forget that you have to take pathophysiology as well. I also took that online at butler community college. I personally ended up completing 11 prereqs in exactly 11 months time and got all A's and 1 B, while working a full time job (that wasn't meant to sound like I was trying to showoff. just wanted to let you know my circumstances). So...it's definitely doable.

Good luck!

P.S. I just got accepted into the Samuel Merritt ABSN Fall 2012

Specializes in Oncology.

Jason B has a good point. Samuel Merritt is not ALL about stats. They look at a person as a whole. Work and volunteer expereince, writing capabilities, and stats. Of course, having a high GPA helps but make sure you focus on all areas.

I also volunteer at a hospital so I am hoping that will help as well :)

Is the Sac State ABSN program for sure up and running? I thought last time I checked their website it said that it was pending approval? I think the Samuel Merritt program is closer to 50K.

Hi NishaA,

Yes and no, regarding the CSUS College of Continuing Ed ABSN program. It is up and running (a cohort is in it now), and for the next cohort, applications will be out in January 2013 and are due in February 2013, with a start of June 2013. However, it is also still pending approval by the university. And the SMU program is 60,500, and with books and insurance, ends up being about 63,000, from what I understand.
