Samuel Merritt ABSN - Spring 2019

Published

Hello!

I'm new to this site, but have been following the allnurses posts regarding Samuel Merritt program applications religiously for a while now. I recently applied to the ABSN and ELMSN - FNP program for the July 1 deadline. Thought it would be great to have a place to provide insight, stay updated and share experiences with all of you through this terrifying journey. I mean we ONLYYY have to wait until October - November to hear anything. Let the wait begin.....

Looking forward to hearing from you all :)

Hi! I just finished patho. It was 3 20 question quizzes a week covering 2 chapters each quiz and 1 research paper and 1-2 group discussions a week, it's a heavy workload. Are you taking the 6 week course or the full course over spring? I found quizlet very useful for studying. If you PM me I can share my patho folder with you. I managed a B, I finished my final last night and I should have studied harder for it. I was only a few points away from an A.

Specializes in Neuro, Trauma/Neuro ICU.

WebbC1 thank you so much for your info! I would love anything you have but I can't PM you on this site for some reason. Would you mind sending me an email when you get a chance. You are amazing! I would be taking the 8week class. You should be super proud getting a B is still really good for such a fast paced Summer class.

Hey-- I'm preparing for the sbcc patho final right now. Any tips?

I'm taking it tonight, I'll let you know how it goes. :)

I got a 96% overall on my HESI. Things I used to study:

Elsevier test prep book for all sections.

"Crash Course: Anatomy and Physiology" videos on YouTube for a quick (and fun) review/ overview of A&P.

The grammar/vocab was not as difficult as the Eselvier book makes it seem, in my opinion. However, I had already taken all of the English prerequisites required by the program. Still, I felt the vocab/grammar was at an appropriate undergraduate college level.

Additionally, all portions of the test felt very straightforward. I didn't feel as if I was being "tricked" by the questions.

Last bit of advice, study but don't absolutely stress out over studying for this one. It is a reasonable test. Plus, if you don't do well on your first attempt, you do get a second try using the Samuel Merritt code. (Retesting would be a little hard on the bank account, but helped to calm my nerves going into test day.)

Good luck with everything. You got this!

Hi! How did you do on the patho exam?

Hi Everyone!

I finally got my preliminary review email today too. I applied for the ABSN program on 6/27 for the San Mateo campus.

Awesome! I also applied for the ABSN San Mateo site.

Just curious, who else applied for ABSN in San Mateo?

I applied to San Mateo, too! I received my prelim. email on July 23rd. I'm just hoping we'll all hear back with a decision by September. Waiting until Oct. or Nov. just seems like eternity.

I applied for San Mateo and received my preliminary email 7/23 as well. They should get back to us asap because people who still need to finish pre recs as well as other schools deadlines to accept admittance are this week and next. I applied to schools in Colorado too and they need my answer by this Friday so I am hoping we all will know if we got in asap!!

They definitely wont have answers to us by then. It took them over 3 weeks to get through preliminary application screening and from there the applications get sent to the faculty for review which will likely take at least another 3 weeks. If you have a spot at a Colorado school then I would take it, you likely wont hear back for another month or more from Samuel Merritt.

Hey-- I'm getting ready to take the patho final soon. Is the final just the same questions from previous quizzes?
