Samuel Merritt ABSN - Spring 2019

Published

Hello!

I'm new to this site, but have been following the allnurses posts regarding Samuel Merritt program applications religiously for a while now. I recently applied to the ABSN and ELMSN - FNP program for the July 1 deadline. Thought it would be great to have a place to provide insight, stay updated and share experiences with all of you through this terrifying journey. I mean we ONLYYY have to wait until October - November to hear anything. Let the wait begin.....

Looking forward to hearing from you all :)

I emailed Katherine about when I would hear back from SMU because I know other students are hearing back. She said they are sending them out in waves because of the numerous applicants

Hello everyone! I have been following this thread but haven't posted. This is my third time applying, never been waitlisted.

Last 60 GPA: 3.7

Science GPA: 3.5

HESI 95%

My LORs are from nursing directors and the chief of nursing at the hospital I work at. I have worked in reputable hospitals for over 6 years and have a masters in healthcare administration...I also have not heard back yet. Previous years I heard back on the first day getting rejected :-/ good luck to everyone.

This is also baffling to me. You seem like a perfect candidate. I really wish they did face to face interviews. So much is lost when you can't see someone's personality and mannerisms. I honestly feel like everyone on here would make a fantastic nurse.

"Sending then out in waves due to the numerous applicants..."

That doesn't sound good. :(

She told me mid to late October for everyone to get final decisions. Sending them out in waves makes sense if there were that many applicants, but it definitely makes for a stressful wait in the mean time. Fingers crossed we all hear back soon and that we all get in! This cohort seems like it's full of such great people already!

Just thought I'd update for the San Mateo folks. Called Derric's number and the voicemail said he's out of the office Tues. Oct 2nd through Mon. Oct 8th, returning Tues. Oct 9th. Not sure if that means no other notifications will be sent between now and then... just wanted to share. This waiting game is torturous.

I think we're all ready to catch one of those waves.... this is torture.

Katharine is out of the office at Sacramento and they have still ben rolling out acceptances and she has still been answering her email. I think San Mateo should still be getting theirs too.

Thank you, Studentnurseintraining! I really hope so.

I've never surfed before, but I'll sure try!

I have a trip to Hawaii in 2 weeks and I'm really hoping to catch a wave before I actually go catch some waves!

I did call and talk to them a 2 years ago and asked if having my BA would cut it down, they said no. So I didn't continue talking with them.

That's interesting to hear. I had heard that they were willing to work with people who had some prereq courses already complete, but then people also said that they wouldn't confirm which classes until they paid to submit an application. Those same people said when they submitted, they were denied the ability to use their previous classes. It sounded a little sketchy to me. That and the fact that it seems impossible to find out about clinical locations.

I know they are at least somewhat affiliated with Carrington, and I know that Carrington (when they offered nursing ages ago) did clinical rotations through doctors office and other not-so-appropriate places for clinicals. Who knows, maybe that's legit? But for me, I hope to work in a hospital, and I want to know that I'll get my chance to learn inside of one.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I appreciate that.

I hope you find out before you go too! It'd be great to either celebrate your admission, or drown your sorrows out in the ocean (or in a mai tai, your pick!).
