Samuel Merritt ABSN - Spring 2019

Published

Hello!

I'm new to this site, but have been following the allnurses posts regarding Samuel Merritt program applications religiously for a while now. I recently applied to the ABSN and ELMSN - FNP program for the July 1 deadline. Thought it would be great to have a place to provide insight, stay updated and share experiences with all of you through this terrifying journey. I mean we ONLYYY have to wait until October - November to hear anything. Let the wait begin.....

Looking forward to hearing from you all :)

I was waitlisted 40/56 last semester and never heard back from SMU about anything as far as denial or waitlist progress. I had 4 classes outstanding and this time around have no outstanding classes.

Tons of experience in the medical field

- phlebotomist

- patient care tech

- pt tech

- clinical trial researcher

And two awesome recommendations

GPA Prereq = 3.25

GPA L 60 = 3.5

Hesi = 88% overall and (92%on A and P)

I agree with all of you that is so difficult to narrow down what they are looking for.

I have met with the counselors and re took classes they suggested and still nothing. I am going to apply to the ELMSN next round and also the UCDavis program. I am not sure if it's because my BS degree GPA was low or what, but my last 60 units is what should count.

Ya my over all collegiate GPA is not outstanding.

Hi everyone, I thought I'd share my stats also. I was accepted in the Sac cohort!

My last 60 GPA: 3.85

Science GPA: 4.0

HESI: 91.6%

I've done over 250 hours of volunteering in hospitals and completed a CNA program this summer as a back up if I was not accepted.

I got 2 LOR, one from my college soccer coach, and the other from a cardiac NP who is my mentor.

I sent my app on the last day July 1st and was accepted yesterday at 0705.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Oh yes I also finished a CNA program and have shadowing hours in the OR... ugh

Did you receive your waitlist confirmation at the same time when people received their acceptances or later?

It almost seems like healthcare experience is a negative. Like, paid healthcare experience. They seem to want more volunteer/intern experience.

I am now panicking I have heard nothing! They really should send out the yes, no, and waitlist all at the same time!!!

I was waitlisted #14 last cohort and was notified on the same day as everyone.

After being waitlisted, I called the counselor and asked why/what I could improve. I did what was suggested and then some. I also don't have any classes in progress this time around (I still had pathophys/pharm in progress initially).

I have 5 LORs: 1 from the Chief of Surgery at a major academic hospital, 1 from the manager of a clinical research lab, 1 from a nurse that I work with to coordinate a tumor board program for cancer patients, a UCD Health Psych professor, and a UCD Physiological Psych TA who I have also done volunteer research with for UCLA for the last 2.5 years.

I'm still waiting to hear back also. This is absolutely awful.

Yes, fall 18 ABSN SM and Sac was notified on May 30 in the morning and I received waitlist that day at around 3pm. They for sure are doing things differently this semester. And ya I do think they value volunteer work more than actual experience. I have somewhere around 3 or 4 thousand hours in the field.

Yeah, I was notified of my sac waitlist last cycle on May 30th at 3:15pm. #26 and I never was contacted by them again

I also feel that the super outstanding applicants are getting rejected for some reason. Maybe to encourage them to apply for the ELMSN instead?
