Samuel Merritt ABSN 2010 San Mateo

Published

Hi all,

I noticed threads for other Samuel Merritt campuses and semesters but not the ABSN program that starts January 2010 in San Mateo. I was a little discouraged to read all of the frustrations of the San Francisco campus for fall. San Mateo is my #1 choice and it was only between that and Sac for winter semester. I'm wondering if there is anyone else who applied for 2010 in either campus. From what I gathered from other posts it takes about 3-4 months to get a reply? Its gonna be a looong wait! Who's waiting with me?

Do you think it will be very impacted?

With Regards..

Hi everyone,

I'm so happy for everyone who is in. I have been notified that I am #3 on the waitlist, so I am keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck to everyone.

Lauren,

Did they call you today or did you recieve an email? Or did you call them? Did they say if all the people that were accepted had already been called and now they are just calling people on the waitlist?

Daoud,

The main campus at oakland? Which advisor did you speak with? I got a voicemail saying that the advisor they connected me with is out of the office until oct 5. When you spoke to the advisor did they tell you that everyone has already been contacted who was accepted? Thank you so much!

I spoke to a lady who is a San Mateo ABSN advisor. She informed me that all accepted students were contacted yesterday.

Annaynn.Victoria,

I was sent an e-mail informing mo of my status and placement on the waitlist. I had always heard that the waitlist was called, so I was kind of thrown getting an email. Maybe they are behind in calling people. Good luck!

I got an email saying that i am number 24 on the waitlist... does anyone know many many people they actually take from the waitlist?...Im glad im not rejected, but at the same time i feel that being number 24, im at the bottom and its very unlikely that ill get in... :(

Hello,

I just received an email that I am #12 on the waitlist. Doesnt sound too promising but we shall see!

Id take #12 over #24 anyday!

Dave (and others),

#12 still seems low to me! I spoke with Liza and she told me that 8 people were accepted off the waitlist the last cohort in Sacramento so if the trend follows for this San Mateo then it doesnt look so great :( But being on the waitlist is better than a rejection and hopefully that will mean that we will get in next cohort! :) Also for anyone else that is wondering, all the acceptances were called yesterday and all the waitlists are being notified today. Hope to see you all in January! I am still trying to be hopeful!

Im pretty disappointed because the timing of this program is perfect for me...Do you know when the next cohort is? November? To me that is just way too late...That means, that i will be doing absolutely nothing for one whole year before i go back to school...Im applying to the university of Buffalo in NY, which is an ABSN program that starts in May which has the same prerequisites as SMU and is 30,000 cheaper.

:((( I have no idea why they picked who they did, but as you can see from those who didn't get into SF, and then got admitted to SM i dont think it has anything to do with your qualifications. I really think they are trying to fill some kind of formula (so many males/females/older students/students with xyz experience etc) I seriously think the reason I was picked was because I am hispanic and speak conversational spanish. Based on their demographics and that scholarship they offered i think this is underrepresented at SMU. Also i had a really awesome, impressive, person (Doctor) write me a letter of rec, and I think my essays were pretty good. I worked with high school kids on writing personal statements a while back as a job, so i think i'm okay at this.

My stats were about 3.4 on last 90 quarter units, science probably 3.6-3.75, NET score 88. I have 4 years of experience working in public health with injection drug users and 3 years working with abused children and seasonal work as an admin in a doctors office. Not exactly health care work, but I tied it all together in my essays. If there were 100 spots and 177 applicants i'd think this made me a shoe-in, but considering how insanely qualified all of the applicants probably are, I really think it was the latino/spanish thing that tipped the scales.

Dave, the next cohorts start in april, may and june at sf/oakland/and san mateo. I'm sorry to hear they didn't offer you a spot this time, but if you are waitlisted that still means they want you! I'm sure if you don't get a spot this time you will for the next term! It's so incredibly frustrating to see so many enthusiastic/over qualified people practically fighting to go to school... school is a good thing!

(I blame Bush) just kidding

Since I did not get a call or an email today about the waitlist I am assuming I didn't get in. Pretty disappointing, but there were a lot of competitive applicants. I only applied to Samuel Merritt, so I guess now I will look at state schools (although I have heard they are more difficult to get into). I'm thinking my age may have been a factor here, since I just graduated college and am 22. I have a 4.0 on my prereqs and about a 3.9 on my last 60 units, and a 95% on my TEAS, so I know it wasn't my stats, although I do have 3 prereqs in progress (but just humanities). I worked for a year with nurses in a travel clinic. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. Congrats to all those who did get accepted!
