Samuel Merritt ABSN 2010 San Mateo

Published

Hi all,

I noticed threads for other Samuel Merritt campuses and semesters but not the ABSN program that starts January 2010 in San Mateo. I was a little discouraged to read all of the frustrations of the San Francisco campus for fall. San Mateo is my #1 choice and it was only between that and Sac for winter semester. I'm wondering if there is anyone else who applied for 2010 in either campus. From what I gathered from other posts it takes about 3-4 months to get a reply? Its gonna be a looong wait! Who's waiting with me?

Do you think it will be very impacted?

With Regards..

Thanks for the input I'll give that a try!! :)

Hi BYU - just from experience, you'll never get through to a prof. in the online classes at SBCC they might have an address w/in pipeline but they won't answer. The one I had for Patho BARELY answered her internal "moodle" class e-mail. Like pulling teeth. Let me warn you to steer clear of Univ of Iowa's class - awful notes, terrible book and instructors that are the antithesis of helpful, I had to drop it and was told by the dist. educ. admin. that "there were problems with the class". Don't know about other out of state distance classes but if you can get something through a CC you're probably going to have a better experience and spend less to do it. You might try calling the HIT office at SBCC and seeing if you can get some kind of answer that way. I think the policy at SBCC is you're in or you're not - meaning no waitlist or exceptions but it never hurts to check it out and try. Good luck!

Elle - sorry it's taken so long to apply. I haven't visited allnurses in awhile. Once all nonqualified applicants are weeded out, the eligible applicants are submitted to the nursing faculty for review. The nursing faculty make the final decision on who will be accepted. Based on the last admission process, it looks like people with healthcare and more life experience (e.g. people who were older with kids) were accepted rather than just people who had high GPAs and high entrance test scores. Also, a couple of people that had been high on the waiting lists for previous cohorts were admitted.

Hope this helps!

Has anyone heard anything yet?

Does anyone know how many applications they have received for spring 2010? Has anyone received any updates?

Hello! I have also applied for the January 2010 San Mateo cohort. I have not heard anything from SMU yet. It seems like I turned in my application ages ago...this is going to be a long wait! I am pretty nervous, especially with the increase in applicants. I'll be sure to post if I hear anything :) Good Luck to everyone!

I talked to an admissions counselor today, there were 177 applications to San Mateo and 129 to Sacramento for spring 2010.

i just got that email today and like a spaz I counted every other email address that it was sent to! i was hoping that was for sac and san mateo. I dont think 177 is much more than they usually get per semester based on the stats they posted for the school..

Hello Elle, I am wondering about your email. I also applied , but have not received anything. What did your email say if you do not mind me asking??? Ug this waiting game is BRUTAL. I also applied to UCSF and took the GRE yesterday. NOT FUN!! Thanks a lot!

here is the body of the email. weird how they ended it with the mpa program though. its probably just the same thing they send to those students and they forgot to change the email. the email was sent on tuesday the 18th, could they have another email that you don't normally use? if your check has cleared already i'd say that was good enough notification that they have received your application!

dear absn applicants:

thank you for your interest in samuel merritt university and the absn program.

we are unceasingly processing your applications and you will be receiving email updates as soon as your file has been processed.

please, be patient when you don't receive immediate responses. we respectfully request that you do not contact us for application

status updates. however, if you need to do so, expect a faster communication via email than phone.

this notification assures you that we have your application, it is being reviewed, and that we will contact you directly if we need any additional information or have any questions regarding your application.

thank you again for your interest and for your application to our mpa program.

sincerely,

Hello. Thank you for the email in return. I actually thought that you had already received an acceptance letter!! I do know that my application is in simply because I took it in and dropped it in the office! haha. So that is good news... rumor has it we will hear mid september or early october. One of the administrators told me that. Did you apply to the ELMSN program as well? Thank you again!

no acceptance letter yet! september or early october would be awesome, i just hope it doesn't get too close the the entrance date. The ABSN is the only one I applied for this semester!

I applied for their regular BSN program, but I know my friend who applied to the ABSN program at SF already got their acceptance letter atleast a week ago -- I wonder why the San Mateo campus is slower?
