Samuel Merritt ABSN Sacramento cohort 2016

Published

Hi All!

I am applying to the Sacramento ABSN cohort for 2016 and would like to hear from others that are applying or graduates of the program! Current application stats, thoughts on the program, etc. I have my bachelors from UC Davis in Nutrition and have TONS of experience in the ER. I am currently an ER Tech at Lodi memorial and have been a scribe at UC Davis. My science GPA is 3.0, but my last 60 semester units are 3.87 and my TEAS scores that I just took today are all over 90%.

Hope to hear about all of your experiences and pray that we all get in! :D :D :D

Yes, we were supposed to have the transcripts sent to nursingCAS. Out of the 5 transcripts that I requested, NursingCAS has received 2. I am thinking they're going to wait until they receive everything and then send it to Samuel Merritt.

Hello everyone! I, too, am applying to this cohort, here are my stats...

I have a BS in Health Science, option in health education from Chico State.

Last 60 units GPA: 3.6

Science GPA: 3.0

TEAS: 87.1 overall; reading 97.5; math 84.4

I currently volunteer at Kaiser on the mom-baby and labor and delivery floors. I have also interned in Labor and Delivery at Mercy San Juan. I have worked for an oral surgeon and was an SI leader/tutor for a college anatomy course for 3 years.

Did is anyone else experience difficulties with the transfer to the NursingCAS system? My references had submitted their letters through the old application system and I was half way finished with my application when I was forced to switch everything over í ½í¸ My references had to resubmit and had lots of technical difficulties.

I had to switch over to NursingCAS and had my references resubmit too because I was filling through the old application system. My references never spoke of any technical difficulties with the new application.

From what I've heard (at least from previous timelines), applications typically don't get passed on to Samuel Merritt and the admissions committee until early August. I think July is used for processing and verifying transcripts and test scores. My transcripts are still pending arrival as well, although I feel like they should have arrived by now!

Hello Everyone I am also applying to the Sacramento Spring 2016 Cohort. Did anybody else apply to the San Mateo location. I applied to both just in case. Here are my Stats

Last 60: 3.3

Science: 3.3

Teas: 87.3% overall (math 90%, and reading 88.1%)

I have volunteer experience from Mercy General, and I am currently a volunteer for the UC Davis Hospice Program. In addition I have been volunteering at a Pediatric clinic for the past year, and have had the opportunity to shadow a school nurse. This is my first time applying to Samuel Merritt. Good Luck to everyone.

Is anyone applying to any other schools? I applied for this cohort at SMU, but I heard that we don't find out if we are accepted until October, and I applied to an accelerated program in nevada that STARTS in October! Oh no! I REALLLLLLLLY want to go to samuel merritt because its such a great school and close to home, but I don't want to pass this other opportunity up and then not get into SMU. I don't know what to do! :( :(

I got an email from SMU on the 31st stating that my application has been found to be complete and has been passed on to the nursing for the next step in the evaluation process. I don't know how we're all going to wait until October for decisions!! Good luck to everyone and here's to hoping our nerves hold out until October!:)

Congratulations on moving a step forward in the process. Did you also apply to the ABSN? There hasn't been alot of activity on other forums from students applying to the other programs. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything re: number of applicants to the various nursing programs offered at SMU?

Thank you! I did apply to the Sacramento ABSN cohort. As far as the number of applicants, I haven't seen/heard anything except for what has been posted here on this thread really... I think that there are usually a decent number of applicants for each campus though, or at least it appears that way from previous year postings on these forums!

Hi,

I've applied for the San Mateo Spring 2016 ABSN. I got an email on August 26th stating that my application was complete and is being sent for faculty review. Here are my stats:

-BS in chemistry

-Worked as a high school physics and chemistry teacher for several years

-Science GPA 3.8

-TEAS overall 89

-My only healthcare experience was being a caretaker for both of my ailing parents. This is what inspired me to change careers. I don't know how much weight (if any) this bears as experience.

-I have patho, pharma, and communication in progress. Patho and Pharma finish up October 11, and communication goes until December.

The counselor told me that it's perfectly fine to have courses in progress. She said that very few applicants have everything completed before admission.

Has anyone else heard anything?

My application has also been sent over. I read online that they don't give out the acceptance letters until around October?

Good luck!

I hope it's not October -- that is really late (and too late for some people with other apps in -- like jessicaraejames). I snooped around a posting from last year and people were getting calls and emails around mid-September. They have switched over to the NursingCAS, which may change things. I also think that since so many of their applicants are in the summer Patho and Pharma courses that they may wait until those grades are posted to make decisions.

Good luck!
