Hello everyone, I haven't seen a thread for the ABSN Fall 2021 Start (Sacramento, San Mateo) so here it is. ?

I was thinking if I didn't get in I might take the TEAS again or something. I feel like I don't have enough time to change anything in my application between now and July 1st. If you don't mind me asking, how would you get in more hours between now and the application deadline?
I was just saying for the future if I don't get in this fall. I would have to reapply for next fall and by then it'll give me more time to get more volunteer hours.

I personally did far better on the HESI and thankfully Samuel Merritt is one of the few schools that accepts either exam.
I guess I’ll find out if scoring high on the HESI improved my application to get accepted. ?
Yes I'm hoping the same thing. I did very well on the HESI, I scored in the 90's for all the subjects Samuel Merritt looks at. On their website it says they give priority consideration to those who scored over 80% in the different subjects so I'm hoping this is true.

I already applied to July 1st. Only added the new course I took this Spring and everything else was same. Those of you who applied; can I ask to share your grades if you wouldn't mind. Like how much you scored on TEAS? I don't have good grades; I'm just having my fingers crossed.
Also those of you who had made this account in Samuel Merrit portal; Do you guys see any updates there?.
Thank you.
Hi Ten!
There’s no new updates on the portal, it’s the same message application is still being reviewed.
I was reading previous threads & it seems like grades were across the board. Some people with lower GPA got in over some people with higher GPA, so I think they also weigh heavily on the LORs, personal statements, and any healthcare experience(s) as well!
I didn’t take the TEAS, but I scored 94% overall on the HESI. I had 3 classes in progress (all science) when I submitted my application & I’m hoping that won’t hurt me too much.
I’ve been reading and rereading my statements to see how I can approve it, but I don’t think I’ll be applying to the July 1 deadline. I just don’t want to throw away another $50. If I get in, great, if I don’t, I’m planning on making an appointment with a counselor to go over my application for any tips on how to make it stronger/more competitive.

Honestly I don't think I'd be able to apply to the July 1st deadline because pretty much everything of my application is the same. I guess if I were to be rejected, I'd reapply for the September deadine and probably try to improve my personal statements because that's all I can think of. I'd also try to schedule a meeting with an admissions counselor to see which specific part of my application was lacking.
As far as stats go, my overall undergraduate GPA is barely scraping a 3.0. More like a 3.05. My last 60 unit GPA is around a 3.7. I didn't take the TEAS but I took the HESI instead and got a 98% overall. Hoping for good news soon but we'll see I guess!
Good luck to everyone who applied!

I’m definitely on the fence about it too. I think it’s crazy that they haven’t pushed back application deadlines for the next cohort since they have pushed decisions back! Or said anything about refunding application fees if a student applies for the next cycle but gets accepted.
My last 60 GPA at time of app was 3.6, my tease score is 88, I have past healthcare experience as MA and EMT and community service volunteering, and solid LORs. But I needed 4 prereqs (3 science and interpersonal Comms) at time of application. Nothing would change about my application not even my prerequisites being finished bc I won’t finish them before the July 1st deadline.
I’m wonder if there was a large increase in applicants this year. What site are most people applying to? And did you say only the one site or had the alternative site as the backup? I have no idea what to change since nothing new has happened and there isn’t enough time to add volunteer hours or anything before submitting since I had already updated my classes in progress.

I applied to Sacramento, which is the only campus I can reasonably attend since I'm older with a family and I don't want to move my family or give up my childcare situation.
The admissions counselor told me they had 160 applicants for 48 spots in Sacramento. Keep in mind this was when she also told me we'd have a decision by mid June. I agree with @AfutureCNM. I wish they would have pushed back the July 1st deadline, or offered more info about refunding our application if we do end up getting in. It's just become very confusing and I feel like puts us at such a disadvantage to compete with other applicants for the July 1st deadline. I'm especially frustrated because I'm only applying to Sacramento (which I realize is on me!) but if I don't get in this round or for the July 1st round I have to wait until the next Fall 2022 cohort.
Also, the numbers that the admissions counselor gave me (160 apps for 48 slots) are not all that different than what she estimated for me a few months ago. Before the April 1st deadline she told me that they usually get around 150 applications so I can't speak to any other campuses but it doesn't seem like it's all that different. IDK.

this is good to know, thanks! I don't know if I'll have time to take the HESI but it's a good option. I just can't believe we haven't heard yet ?
