As a current student in this program it is with absolute certainty and sadness that I do NOT recommend you attend this school. We have made it to the end of our program and they have decided to remove 1 on 1 preceptorships from their programs. This means that you will have limited in person clinical experiences and no in person/hands on specialty experience at the end of your course. They have decided to go the virtual route which means more sitting behind the computer and less hands on patient care. Currently the cohorts that started in 2022 are looking into any sort of action we can take against SMU as they are not even trying to rectify this and have basically given up on trying to place us. I will say that most of the instructors I have worked with have made the best with what they have given them, but the administration and people in charge are going to run this nursing program into the ground. I know this may be a hard thing to hear or accept bc I know what its like tp apply, wait, and work hard towards getting into a second degree program. But you will be left in $90K debt and finish the program without the necessary skills or requirements to make you competitive in a market where other programs are placing their students in hospitals and preceptorships. I encourage you to look into any other option available because if you are expecting the school to be forthcoming and transparent with information, then sadly you will end up like the rest of us struggling through this situation. And if there are no other options for you and you have to attend this school, I sincerely hope that the fight we are gonna give them makes a difference for you bc this is a terrible situation to be in.

Hi to you all! Got my email yesterday that I’m in for Sacramento! I got waitlisted for Fall 2021 so I’m excited to be in and can’t wait to meet you all! for those asking my stats are… 3 AA Degrees and a BA in Human Development-Women’s Studies minor Gerontology overall GPA 3.6, science GPA 3.8, TEAS 86.9% Prior experience as EMT, Certified Medical Assistant, over 100hrs community volunteer hours, medical and labor mission trip experience. Had strong personal statement answers, LORs from RN, PA, & Biosci professor. Congratulations to those who made it in and keep working at it to those who didn’t!

Hi! Thanks for starting this! How did you figure there was movement on the waitlist? It doesn’t say my position in the portal and I haven’t gotten any updates besides the original email that told me I was #16. I’m not hopeful that I’ll get off the list but I want to keep track of how much it moves for future reference bc nothing really changed about my application for the Spring. thanks

Congratulations! It so weird how the decisions on the portal are just slowly rolling in randomly and no emails have gone out. I am hesitant to create a portal account because in my overthinking mind I was worried bc it said not to create one unless you have been admitted, but I’m glad someone has gotten some good news from it.

I’m definitely on the fence about it too. I think it’s crazy that they haven’t pushed back application deadlines for the next cohort since they have pushed decisions back! Or said anything about refunding application fees if a student applies for the next cycle but gets accepted. My last 60 GPA at time of app was 3.6, my tease score is 88, I have past healthcare experience as MA and EMT and community service volunteering, and solid LORs. But I needed 4 prereqs (3 science and interpersonal Comms) at time of application. Nothing would change about my application not even my prerequisites being finished bc I won’t finish them before the July 1st deadline.

Hi! This is actually a combo specialty offered where you are eligible for both certifications when the program is completed. Essentially you have to be a NP in order to become a CNM. I hope that makes sense! ?
