Samuel Merritt ABSN 2010 Admissions - San Francisco, Oakland, San Mateo

Published

This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to Samuel Merritt's Accelerated BSN programs in San Francisco, Oakland, or San Mateo for 2010 entry.

This is my second application for admission. San Mateo had a July 1 and Nov 1 deadline, I applied to both. I received a letter the first week in November (in regards to the July 1 deadline) that I was number 48 of 50 waitlisted. This was the first I heard from them regarding that application!! So I am pretty sure I will not be offered admission to that program. Does it seem like a long time that it takes approx 3 1/2 to 4 months to hear anything regarding admission?

I don't know if being waitlisted once will help my chances of getting into any of their other programs or not. I emailed them shortly after the November 1st deadline to find out how long before we will hear anything. And they said they will not be sending out admission offers until at least mid-February!!

I would love to hear from anyone else that has experience with Samuel Merritt's admission process especially from those that were accepted recently. Does anyone know how many applications they receive?

Rach,

Did they call or email you in April like they said?

Anyone has any new information?

Anyone have any information on when they would be notifying accepted candidates?

Hello,

They will be notifying by mid may.

Hello,

Does anyone know that how many applicants applied for this cohort?

I've emailed the counselor about possible Patho classes that are acceptable from SMU but I haven't heard back in weeks. Ugh.

Did anyone get early admission decision? Its not a norm but I remember on previous postings under a different topic, I think someone got an early decision.

The wait is killing me!

Hi all,

I also applied to the Nov 2010 cohort for SMU SF. The waiting is driving me nuts, because my life is going to go in two very different directions depending on if I get into this program! EVERYTHING is riding on that letter- yikes!

I was able to get into SBCC's Pathophysiology class for the summer, thankfully. However, in case anyone was not able to, I thought I would share that I compared the prices of all of SMU's pre-approved Patho schools to figure out what the cost is of each.

The whole list, in order of price, last I checked (I live in CA, so pricing was based on that):

1. SBCC- Free/ Comm College price

2. Columbus State- $875 (I registered for this as a backup, and the reg process was super easy- I had not yet submitted the prereq transripts, so i just called and was able to add the class on a "tentative" basis, pending aproval/ submittal of transcripts).

3. Arkansas Tech- $1169

4. SMU- $1440.

5. Univ of Wisconsin- $2000 (I think?)

6. Purdue- $2700

7. Middle Tenn Univ- $3000

These are not offering Patho this summer:

- Peralta/Merritt

- Moorpark (cancelled)

- Memphis (they have a different patho class offfered than the approved one- not sure if this will qualify)

- Univ of New Mexico

- Yuba (not til Fall)

- Univ of Iowa

- Univ of Nebraska

Best of luck to all! I had five prereqs not yet completed at time of application, so I am hoping that did not affect me. I now have four of them done, and am just taking Patho this summer.

Does anyone know how much value they place on the TEAS score?

Cheers,

Andy

Did you guys get the email today? My app has been forwarded to SF faculty for review.

They'll let us know END of May instead of mid-May....

Do you know how many applicants there are for SF Fall 2010?

Yeah I got the email too....More waiting ugh!

Do they have 48 spots like I've heard they do in the past?

I received the email as well.

Hey Robinson-

I was worried about this as well, but after talking to a nursing supervisor at my work, I fell confident I can get a job. She said during the last 6 months or so of school, she worked as a tech at UC Davis hospital and was immediately hired as an RN after graduation in a time where there wasnt a nursing shortage and jobs were very hard to come by. She say's if you work hard during school and show them you are really serious about it, then most likely you'll be fine at finding a job =) best of luck! also, look for new grad jobs!

Thanks so much for the feedback. I feel a lot better hearing that the job outlook may not be as grim as the current market makes it appear. :)
