This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to Samuel Merritt's Accelerated BSN programs in San Francisco, Oakland, or San Mateo for 2010 entry.
This is my second application for admission. San Mateo had a July 1 and Nov 1 deadline, I applied to both. I received a letter the first week in November (in regards to the July 1 deadline) that I was number 48 of 50 waitlisted. This was the first I heard from them regarding that application!! So I am pretty sure I will not be offered admission to that program. Does it seem like a long time that it takes approx 3 1/2 to 4 months to hear anything regarding admission?
I don't know if being waitlisted once will help my chances of getting into any of their other programs or not. I emailed them shortly after the November 1st deadline to find out how long before we will hear anything. And they said they will not be sending out admission offers until at least mid-February!!
I would love to hear from anyone else that has experience with Samuel Merritt's admission process especially from those that were accepted recently. Does anyone know how many applications they receive?

Hi! I hear your frustration. I am in my first semester at SMU Oakland. I'm in the BSN program. It also took a really long time for me to hear anything from them after I applied (months). I got a letter saying I was 8th on the W/L, and in a few weeks they called me and said I made it. But I was a transfer student from a non-partnering 2+2 school (like St. Mary's, Holy Names, and Mill's), and there were only 4 spaces (out of 64) for transfers. So I felt really fortunate to have made it in.
I'm not sure how many are admitted into your program, but keep the faith. I know it sounds far-out, but while I was waiting to hear from them I used the power of the mind and imagined daily that I was already going there. I called it "my school" and drove by it all the time. Doing this has helped me get many things in my life. I would say every night before going to bed, and every morning, "I am so happy and grateful now that I have been accepted to Samuel Merritt." It works! The mind is very powerful. I'm sorry if I went off on a tangent and didn't answer your question. Good luck to you!!! :loveya:
P.S. It is a great school. I am very happy there.
Hi Rockstar ()
Thanks for the response. The mind is most definitely a powerful tool. Thanks for the advice. You said you liked the program? Aside from admissions being super slow, would you say one you are in the program the instructors and staff are there for you to answer any questions? How are the clinicals? I would love to hear about your experience in the program. How many times did you apply before you were offered admissions?
Thanks for your responses. And good luck in your nursing program!!

I received an email from Samuel Merritt yesterday with an update on what is going on for 2010 admissions. There are 144 seats available for the summer term, 48 seats at each of the campuses. To date they have a total of 349 applications for the summer term and there are still a few left to enter. Last year there were 320 applications in total. They anticipate sending out all decision letters by March 1, 2010.
I do hope I will be offered a seat this time around. But good luck to everyone who applied.

Betsy - I'm just wondering what your stats are when you applied July 1 and what they are now? GPA (overall and science)? TEAS score? Medical experience? How many courses were you still working on vs how many you have left now? I have a lot of prereqs still in progress which I've heard significantly lowers your chance of acceptance. Thanks.
When I applied in July I had completed nearly all of the prerequisite course except for Chemistry. As of now I have completed all prerequisites with a 4.0 in all Science courses and overall 3.8. My TEAS score was 80 or 81%. I had some volunteer hours from 5 years ago, but not much medical experience. I applied in March with many Science courses in progress, just for the sake of applying. I figured it may help my chances when I apply with all courses complete. I don't know if it helps or not, but it can't hurt. I am still waiting to hear any news about admission but prob nothing until March. Good luck to you.

Hi everyone,
I also applied for Spring 2010 (in San Francisco) and am waiting for a response! I am wondering if anyone is nervous about getting private loans to pay for tuition??? Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!

I was told by someone who teaches there that a Teas of 85% or better should get you in, low eighties gets you on the wait list, as long as your essay gives them a reason to not want to offer you admission. That may be a little simplistic and I am sure there are more factors involved than that, but that's what I was told.
If that is the case, looks like I wont get in (
Like I said, i'm sure it's not quite as simple as that. Don't give up!
