This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to Samuel Merritt's Accelerated BSN programs in San Francisco, Oakland, or San Mateo for 2010 entry.
This is my second application for admission. San Mateo had a July 1 and Nov 1 deadline, I applied to both. I received a letter the first week in November (in regards to the July 1 deadline) that I was number 48 of 50 waitlisted. This was the first I heard from them regarding that application!! So I am pretty sure I will not be offered admission to that program. Does it seem like a long time that it takes approx 3 1/2 to 4 months to hear anything regarding admission?
I don't know if being waitlisted once will help my chances of getting into any of their other programs or not. I emailed them shortly after the November 1st deadline to find out how long before we will hear anything. And they said they will not be sending out admission offers until at least mid-February!!
I would love to hear from anyone else that has experience with Samuel Merritt's admission process especially from those that were accepted recently. Does anyone know how many applications they receive?

I received my letter last week to the program in San Francisco. I am bummed because I already accepted a spot at Mount St. Mary's in LA. Sam Merritt was my first choice but they took too long to notify us. (
Betsy, how much was your deposit? If it's only a few hundred dollars, weighed against the 60k you'll spend on the program, it might be worth it to go where you think you'll be happier. On the other hand, I'm sure you're gonna make someone on the waiting list at SMU very happy.

My deposit was only $350 and the LA school is less expensive than Sam Merritt. But I would rather live in San Fran though. Its too late now b/c my husband already accepted a job offer in LA. But like you said, someone else will be more than happy to get my spot. I will just have to wait a few more years to move back up there.
UCLover, I also applied for the Fall 2010 San Francisco cohort. I sent it in last week and got an email within a few days saying they received it (which was surprisingly quick!). She also let me know that we will here about decisions "sometime in May". Good luck!
Lauren, I see you also applied to the Masters...Is ABSN your backup? :) From reading the forums, I'm glad you said May...I put a tickler on my calendar for July as last year's cohort said their decisions came then. Good luck to you too!
Hi Lauren and UCLover! I applied for the Fall 2010 cohort in San Francisco as well...This is my first time applying to ABSN, but I applied for ELMSN in 2008 as well. I was thinking we would be hearing back from them within a month or so...but after reading your posts, those hopes have gone up in flames! The admissions advisor for SF told me that last year 200 were accepted out of 250 applicants...sounds like good chances to me, but we'll see.
Out of curiosity, did you guys finish all of your prereqs? I didn't finish pathophysiology...hope that doesn't ruin my chances!

Based on their response time in the past hearing by May seems to be early!
As for prereqs, I am in process with Patho (UCLA Extension) and Pharm (SBCC). When they sent me an email to confirm they received my application, they mentioned that I would need to send them my transcripts as soon as they were available. But as for hurting your chances, I don't think it matters too much! A lot of people apply with 4+ prereqs still in progress (or not even started!) and get in. Just make sure you finish by November :)
Hey all! I also applied to the ABSN program in SF for Fall 2010. I also didn't get an email saying they received my application...hmm?
I also haven't taken pathophysiology yet but I talked to a counselor about it and I told her that I would like to know my application status before taking it because this is the only program I applied to that requires patho. She said that they might email or call us in April to let us know. It sounds like different people are getting different information.
Keep me updated if you hear any information I am really curious to know what is going on!
