Sam Houston State University Fall 2014 BSN

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello,

Is anyone out there applying to SHSU's Fall BSN program?

Do you get to choose your clinical sites? Are there any large, reputable hospitals in the list of sites? My goal is to get a job in a large trauma hospital.

You get to choose from the options they give you. As far as large hospitals probably not like the nursing schools located in Houston. St. Luke's in the woodlands is probably the biggest. I believe Texas Children's Hospital is on the list for pediatrics (3rd semester) Sam also offers several study abroad opportunities.

Yeah I read about the study abroad opportunities somewhere. Isn't the location like Mexico or somewhere South America?

@lknick Thank you for the information about the program:)

Do you remember what your stats were when you applied to the program? and the average of other people who got accepted?

I want to know if I have a good chance to get in. Thank you

3.4 >

Teas 80 >

114 students applied for spring 14 fall will probably be more applicants.

I am applying for the Fall and I have a 3.87 science and 3.63 overall. I made a 78 on the teas..fingers crossed!!

They send acceptance letters to 55 students and right now there are 130 applicants and there will probably be a little more before 6/30

@iknick Thank you for the info.

My overall gpa is 3.54, my science gpa is 3.77

Got 81 on the teas... hopefully good enough

@lcm017 I thought they only accepted 40 students into their program...

Good luck to everyone:)

I called and they said they send out acceptance letters to 55 but usually 10-15 do not accept. Also I asked what the average scores for teas are and she said high 70's to low 80's so I think we are good on our scores

I was also told that they do everything based on a 100 point scale. 65% is weighted on GPA while 35% is on TEAS. They also add 10 points to those who have 36 or more hours of pre nursing curriculum taken at shsu

Yes, it sounds like we should be ok

Do you know what's the gpa average?

turner told me a 3.3 is considered competitive but it can also vary each semester so it's not easy to say. It does look like we have both high gpas though ! lol
