Sam Houston State University Fall 2014 BSN

U.S.A. Texas

Hello,

Is anyone out there applying to SHSU's Fall BSN program?

Hello fellow future nurses! I also plan on applying to SHSU.... I've spoken to the nursing department and the developmental class can be taken at a CC.

So I found out that the Sociology class (intro to socio) that almost every BSN program in TX requires is not the same as the sociology class required at SHSU. Go figure. Now I have to take that one and Kinesiology if I want to apply.

No they accept several sociology courses. If intro is what you took it will be accepted. You can call and verify but I'm sure. Also the 1 hour kin class is fitness for living at Sam which is equivalent to kine 1111 fitness and wellness at lonestar.

I've already called them and I talked with an assistant academic advisor. She looked through my courses and evaluated them. I quote her exact words from the e-mail, "3 hours of Cultural Requirements: SOCI 2319 – Intro to Ethnic Studies (SOCI 1301 – Intro to Sociology does not fulfill this obligation)."

If you could tell me your source of information that would be great. I don't want to take another sociology course.

Inspiredbynavy I was in your same situation thinking that I would have to take ethnic studies, I was told when I called that as long as I am core complete for my school they would accept Intro to Sociology. The woman I spoke to on the phone took down my message and asked an advisor... she called me back with that response. I made sure that she understood my question. I hope that she didn't give me incorrect info, because that will change things for me. Let us know what you find out. I think I'll call back just to double check.

Yeah, I remember also being told that. I would still have to take like an intro to computer, kinesiology, and some other bs blowoff class to be "core complete."

Do you know if this rule applies to all other nursing programs as well? I'm applying to 7 other schools aside from SHSU and still require like 2 or 3 more prereqs out of all 8 schools. Would be nice if I could just be core complete for all and not take any more prereqs.

Btw, I'm digging your avatar. Bruce Lee?

I don't know, this was all news to me, sorry. Oh and you gotta love Bruce Lee!

I just noticed that they didn't count my Intro to Sociology either! I'll be calling tomorrow because as far as I know, Texas core curriculum only requires Intro to Soc. and if you look at the SHSU website it lists Intro as a fulfilling class.

I'll post back tomorrow with what I find out!

@zurie, I've seen you post in either the UTMB or UT Health Houston thread. Did you get into either one?

So whats the deal with the Sociology course?

Question for anyone-

So, the school says they are CCNE accredited but they don't show up on the CCNE website. I would doubt they would lie about something like that. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Does anyone know where I can find proof that they are CCNE accredited?

This is on the website;

The School of Nursing is seeking its second accreditation from Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The site visit is scheduled for October 2013. Be watching for an invitation to attend the public meeting!

Does anyone know which are the main accreditation a school should have?

I just called the school and the woman on the phone said they had their site-evaluation in October and they are confident that it came out okay. They expect accreditation maybe by the end of this month.

Looks like ACEN and CCNE are the accreditations you want to look for.... not exactly sure though?

Yeah, I've seen that on their website before. Someone I spoke to on the phone awhile ago told me they were CCNE accredited already. They should not be saying they are ALREADY accredited when they're still going through the process. Man, I'm just annoyed with all the college employees out their giving incorrect info. I got into an ordeal with someone at UT Arlington. Anyway /endrant

Yeah, ACEN and CCEN are the major accreditations. I'm applying for a military nursing scholarship and they require the school to be accredited for those two. Hoping they will get CCNE accredited very very soon.
