Hi all,
I'm considering a move to Pittsburgh b/c my boyfriend lives there, and I've always loved the city (even though I'm a Cleveland gal). Anyway, I've heard great things about UPMC Presby's CC units. I'm in MICU now with a BSN + 2 yrs cc exp. at a big teaching hosp near Cleveland. Can anyone tell me what kind of salary I can expect in Presby's MICU unit with my education and experience?? Salary.com doesn't seem to have accurate info and I need advice! Thx!!! :)

Yoru best bet is to contact the nurse recruiter directly. I think they also have a relocation program. Here's a link to the nurse recruiters for the health system:

Good-luck with your transfer . . . . . :-)
The problem is that I'm not sure I feel comfortable talking to a recruiter just yet. I still have to get some things ironed out :) I just need a general idea of what to expect.
Understood. Dh works out of Presby and Montefiore, but not in nursing. I haven't gone to the "dark side" yet.

See www.upmc.com and do a search for the kind of position you're interested in ... most list the minimum, midpoint & maximum hourly pay rate for the position.
Good luck to you -- we'll work on indoctrinating you into the Steeler Nation when you get here.

I have worked for UPMC and recently have done internal job searches. The salary range is roughly $21 - $32/hr. There is a position called PNCC (Primary Nurse Care Coordinator) with salary ranging up to $47/hr. This requires a BSN and 5-7 years experience.

I know of an acquaintance that transferred there with 18 mos experience into one of the ICU's and works the weekend option (36 hours fri/sat/sun) and makes $32 an hour.

I had several new grad classmates that went to UPMC's MICU's (Shadyside and Presby) and their starting salary was around $20.50/hr. I imagine you'd make a bit more due to experience.

What does "dark side" mean?
Thank you so much, everyone! Right now I make ~$23/hr and want to make sure Presby can pay something comparable.

I've been at Presby on a med/surg floor for a couple years and I make $23+.
I like overtime, and there is a $10/hour shift bonus on top of that for picking up shifts on particularly stressed units. Which I take ruthless advantage of! =)
I grouse about it, and some days are better than others, but there are a lot of good things about the place, besides the money. Presby gets the most acute cases from the surrounding area, but you will get to work with the best and brightest on some of the most interesting cases.

i worked in presby's cticu for years. salary is not that great in pittsburgh, period.
however - that unit had the best core of nurses and doctors i've ever met *anywhere* since. the sickest population i've ever seen, a ton of autonomy for the nurses and high expectations of nursing skill and critical thinking. i *loved* it.
