Salary!?

Specialties NP

What are y'all NP's making these days? I am currently making 85k salary with my BSN. Someone told me I will not see a salary increase if I go to grad school as an ACNP. Thoughts???

Out of school in Miami most made 75-85k, which is what I made. I moved to California and make 115k. Likely with a little more experience I'll make more, but having state income tax cuts off ~12k of that out the door vs florida.

Salaries are going to vary. You're comparing RN's from different specialties with different levels of experience vs NP's with different specialties with different levels of experience.

On a broad spectrum, RN's can make $50-90k. They may even get into the low 100k area when you get to the Manager/Director status.

NP's can make anywhere from $75k-200k. Some even more.

So yes, if you're comparing your $85k RN job and land an $80k NP job...that wouldn't be the greatest thing financially.

But if you end up getting an NP job for $125k and compare it to your $85k RN job..it seems like a no brainer.

And pay will vary by location as well

LOL!

Well, I get to work around 0815, I spend most of my time sitting and talking to people, I review some labs. I write some prescriptions. I order some labs. I type up a lot of notes and I leave around 1700. I work M-F. I don't have call.

You will see an increase based on where you are working and whether or not you are in a specialty area, and also depending on your ability to move to where the jobs are. You can most certainly earn more than 85k as an NP. As a brand new grad, I started out making a whole lot more than 85k and that was a while ago.

I'm in NYC making 123k for 37.5 hrs in a private hospital setting, I also get an extra 6k for night differential. It all depends on where you work, in Long Island NY the pay is less and pay is also less with city or state hospitals

To whom are you asking this question? There are multiple respondents.
Specializes in Critical Care (ICU/CVICU).

i would make approx 85k working four 12 hour shifts as an angency ICU nurse. BUT I just graduated FNP school in the Houston area and was just offered a 40 hour job starting at $105,000. Working less hours for more $ works for me!

What is your specialty if you don't mind me asking?

Specializes in Critical Care (ICU/CVICU).

Oh, and I did turn down a FNP job where I was offered $116,000. Turned it down because it required more local travel than I cared for. So plenty of NPs are making decent pay (at least in the Houston area)

Specializes in FNP.

I'm a year out and make about 110K with 7 weeks vacation, great medical, opportunities to work extra at 100/hr and/or take call (phone only) for the weekend for 1500. To contrast, my last RN job was home health where I worked my but off taking crazy call (going out in the middle of the night for picc line and other stuff), driving 100 miles a day, crappy medical, and the most ridiculous paperwork you've ever seen; clearing 100K only after figuring in mileage. My NP job is night and day different. Additionally, I'm getting more job offers now than when I was working as an RN, if you can imagine that, lol.

What is your specialty if you don't mind me asking?

I'm a PMHNP.
