Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers School of Nursing - Queens

Anyone accepted for the Fall 2008 semester? I just got my acceptance letter!!! Yay!!! :) :yeah:

Hi Taurinez,

I was wondering if you would go into greater detail about the interview? Thanks in advance!

I am applying to the queens campus...does anyone know how many people they accept per semester?

The interview was pretty straight forward. Dress to impress. I would NOT wear jeans. Business casual is good. So the interviewer will ask you why you're interested in nursing and why should St. Paul's choose you over other applicants, as someone has already stated. Give a little info about yourself. If you have a job, tell them what you do. Tell them your responsibilities at that job. Doesn't have to be nursing (not everyone in my class was a science major) they want to see that you're doing something with your life. ASK QUESTIONS. It will show that you're interested. Ask about the school's history, how they transferred to Queens from Manhattan. You'll want to be involved in conversation and that will be memorable to the interviewer. Definitely do not ask questions like - What's nursing school like? - be sensible about the questions you ask! Ask questions like - What clinicals sites do your students work in? What's a normal class size? What's the passing rate for the N-CLEX for this school? Obviously don't ask them all at once. Just be selective about your questions. Make yourself stand out and you'll be fine.

It is called St. Paul's now?? that concerns me, will employers in the future understand this is still St. Vincent's. What about the quality of education, will it change now that they are owned by Education Affiliates. I don't understand why when we had to put in our deposit they did not inform of us of this.

I'm in the school right now and I'm NOT worried one bit. Ok so you'll have to explain to your employer in the future that SVCMC was acquired by education affiliates. OK? I don't understand the dilemma with explaining. In fact it would help since you could have a DIALOGUE with them about how they changed instead of some boring interview. And NOOOOO the quality of the education will not change; they're not changing instructors. Same staff. There are more resources at the new LARGER building. If you're THAT worried, just pull out. I don't think the deposit's refundable though. Good luck.

Hello. I've been keeping up to date with this forum. I would like to apply for this school next year but my college GPA is at 2.3. I messed up during my college days. Would I still be able to apply and/or how will it be judged against me? Thanks in advance.

how long have you been out of school? if its more than ten years then your gpa wont matter. youre gonna have to take everything over. try taking some of the pre reqs from other schools (ie community colleges) such as ap1 and ap2 psych, sociology and human growth.

Thanks for the response. I've been out of college for only 7 years. So even with that GPA, would they allow me to apply and take the exam? I did take some pre-reqs and it's about a 3.0 GPA in those courses. Thanks again.

my advice is to research other schools as well. dont focus on one school. make sure you have other options. st vincent is an ok school.nothing really special. same as beth israel. they are a lot more expensive than the cuny schools.

Who is this paul fella? SVCMC FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol @stiltarget... Congrats to those of you starting this semester... come in with commitment and dedication and you'll get through it. Starting my second year now and we've lost alot of people :uhoh3:, nursing school is tough anywhere you go, so you really have to come in with a mndset to do whatever it takes! Good luck to you all...

how did you all apply? I don't see any information on the SVCMC website, and I'm curious about the application process, curriculum, etc. Am I missing something?
